ALPINE LAKE, CALIF:
It will be planted this week by the California Department of Fish and Game.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

Free Fishing Derby

A free Fishing Derby sponsored by Carson City Elks Lodge # 2177 is open to children and will be held at Davis Creek Park, in Washoe County on Old Highway 395. Registration runs from 8:30 to 9 a.m.. Fishing runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Awards given to the biggest fish. The derby is followed by an 11:30 lunch with hot dogs, hamburgers and all the trimmings sodas, chips, free to everyone attending. Every child attending will get a prize!
Davis Creek Park is located 20 miles south of Reno. Take U.S. 395 south to the exit for State Route 429. The park is near Bowers Mansion.

Water surface temperatures are at 44.7 degrees and water clarity has improved in most areas to 6.5 to 7.5 feet.
Lake Almanor looks great, and the bite has really picked up.

Here are the 2011 winners of the 14th annual John Riordan Invitational Fishing Derby that was co-headquartered at the Topaz Lake Marina and the Topaz Lodge at Topaz Lake on April 24-25-26:

First: Dez Lamotte of Carson City: 2-pounds, 15.5-ounces.
Second: Fred Valdez of Carson City: 2-pounds, 4.75-ounces.
Third: Fred Valdez: 2-pounds, 3-ounces.
Fourth: John Correia: 2-pounds, 2-ounces.
Fifth: Mike Madison: 2-pounds, ¼-ounce.
Sixth: Jim Bolta: 1-pound, 15.5-ounces.
Seventh: Ed Fabrat: 1-pound, 14.5-ounces.

Fourteenth annual Invitational Fishing Derby at Topaz Lake

Mark your calendars for April 24-26 for the highly-popular John Riordan Invitational Fishing Derby. John is the Assistant General Manager for the Carson Station Hotel and Casino in Carson City, and this will be the 14th version of his annual, fun-filled, fishing event at Topaz Lake.
His derby is traditionally co-headquartered at the Topaz Lake Marina and the Topaz Lake Lodge at Topaz Lake, which lies along the Nevada-California state line about 40 miles south of Carson City.

March 5 is the date of a highly-popular chukar fundraiser

Saturday evening, March 5, will be the date of my all-time favorite fundraiser: The highly-popular and fun-filled, Carson Valley Chukar Club fundraiser, which will be held as usual at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
More importantly, this year’s version will be its 25th.

Wow! 25 years! Congrats for all you have done for Nevada’s wildlife!
