I’ve always loved Tuesdays and today is a good representation of what the day can offer. National Pancake Day at IHOP means a free short stack; but they are hoping you’ll donate to the Children’s Miracle Network. Jazz and Poetry take over Comma Coffee this evening; the Mile High Jazz Band can be found there every second Tuesday all year long. Get your fro-yo fix at Yogurt Beach and help raise funds for the annual Relay for Life fundraiser. A great panel of women will be at the Dayton Community Center this evening to share their experiences growing up on the Comstock.

TUESDAY:

Carson City officials broke ground this morning on the $11.4 million reconstruction project of the downtown corridor of North Carson Street, beginning a major overhaul of that area's streetscape and underground pipe network.

So much for an early spring, Carson City. Depending on how much snow hits the valley floor, the Monday morning commute could take longer than usual, so please slow down and drive carefully. I wonder if they will be bringing a snow shovel to the Downtown Corridor Construction ground-breaking at 11 a.m.

Got kids? The Boys and Girls Club is where you want to be today for the Second Annual Early Childhood Expo. Curious George and Clifford the big red dog can’t wait to say hello. Take a trip out to the Dayton State Park to search for animal tracks and more with a park ranger. If you’re kid free today, then the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk is for you. The spring thaw has begun, and the event listing for the next few days is proof. There are quite a few options for music, art, theater, and more. Downtown offers live music at Westside Pour House and Bella Fiore, comedy at the Carson Nugget, and an Art Show for Carson High Senior, Erica Murray, at the Brewery Arts Center. Living the Good Life and Glen Eagles have dinner music for you. An afternoon treat is best found at Yogurt Beach: all proceeds help the family of three year old Maya Morrison battling leukemia. We have a wine walk weekend coming up and you won’t want to miss it. The ground-breaking on the downtown construction is Monday, so downtown will never look quite the same again. Those interested about the schedule or process won’t want to miss the ‘Pre-construction’ meeting with Public Works at the Sheriff’s office. Spend the evening in our historic downtown devouring sushi at Kim Lee’s, sampling the chef’s creations at Mystique, or enjoying a cocktail at the Carson Cigar Company. Fun seekers won’t want to miss karaoke night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

Comma Coffee welcomes a new exhibit in their Backseat Gallery; they’ll introduce the new show at tonight’s Artist Reception. The Shipley’s return to Living the Good Life to host a music jam. Ahead of the $11.4 million downtown Carson City reconstruction project slated to begin this month, there will be a “Pre-Construction” meeting Thursday in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, according to planners and Public Works.

In like a lion, out like a lamb. March has arrived, and it brings the promise of more snow for the mountains. Not today, though, so embrace the sunny spring day that we have. Put on your cowboy boots and head to Carson Lanes for some line dancing. Square dancing in Genoa is free your first time; dress casual and go do-si-do. The Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center is where you’ll find the Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s viewing of Meet John Doe with Gary Cooper.

Mondays aren’t always something special, but a day like this only comes once every four years. Happy Leap Day, everyone. Have a leisurely lunch at Comma Coffee while listening to Dennis on the Piano. Toast the day with a mimosa at Ed’s Doghouse. Raise your glass to for a good cause: Suds for Seniors is raising money for the Meals on Wheels Program. A $15 ticket will get you a sample of five beers at the Feisty Goat Pub or at the Firkin and Fox. Might as well stick around the Firkin for karaoke and some yummy grub.

Learn something new at one of the lectures tonight: Nicholas Clapp, author of ‘Dancing with the Devil: Virginia City’ at the Gold Hill Hotel or head to the Nevada State Museum to learn about the first fabricator of Levi’s jeans, Nevada’s own J.W. Davis. Take in some amazing views with Muscle Powered as they hike the Pine Nut Mountains. The talented band students from throughout the district come together tonight at Band-o-Rama in the Carson High School Gym. Read the whole list and find your fun.

A gorgeous day awaits. Take advantage of the sunshine with a lunchtime walk along the Carson Tahoe Wellness Trail. Michael Saloga is the presenter at this month’s Soup’s On! luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and will discuss how to raise the bar in 2016. The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. February 7 is best known as ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ and there are plenty of parties going on around town to help you cheer for your favorite team. The Denver Broncos square off against the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Kickoff for Super Bowl 50 is at 3:25 p.m. and will air on CBS. Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are scheduled to perform in this year’s halftime show.

I’ve compiled a list of where you can go to watch the game, and who’s throwing a party.

I’m a sucker for old movies. Give me some Garbo, Monroe, Gene Kelly, or comedic Danny Kay and I’m a happy girl. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club brings a different old movie to a big screen once a month and raises money to bring the arts to kids. Check out this month’s selection ‘Penny Serenade’ in the comfy chairs of the Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall.

Welcome to Thursday, Carson City. A storm’s coming in, so go out and have some fun before the snow shows up. Sing your heart out at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar: it’s karaoke night. The Francis Humphrey Lecture Series returns to the Nevada State Museum with some freakish phenomenon found in the Black Rock Desert. Break a leg to the talented members of the Carson High Drama class performing at the Brewery Art Center. There will be three performances of ‘And Then They Came for Me,’ so don’t miss them in action.

We have some incredibly talented kids here in Carson City. The jazzier ones will be performing at the Community Center tonight with the Mile High Jazz Band in an extravaganza of music. Enjoy some of our valley’s views with the Parks and Rec Easy Walk along the freeway multi-use path. Dinner plans are easy; Mystique is holding a grand opening tonight downtown, so go see what deliciousness they have to offer.
