The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival in Incline Village, NV announces auditions for “Crab” – the dog who plays an important and loving role in William Shakespeare’s "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" which will be performed from July 13 – August 26, 2012 at Sand Harbor State Park.

2011 Ends on a High Note…

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the ninth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 7:30 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The event is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association to benefit for Carson High Jazz Band programs.

Downtown Carson City celebrated the start of the holiday season with the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

Streets were closed off as throngs of people gathered in front of the state capitol to watch as the lights for the two giant Christmas trees were turned on.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived on the back of an antique fire truck, with Mayor Bob Crowell riding shotgun. After the state's trees were turned on, the crowd headed over to the First Presbyterian Church where the city's Christmas tree was turned on.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites residents and visitors to attend the Kokanee Salmon Festival, which celebrates the annual fall migration of Kokanee salmon at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. The University of Nevada, Reno College of Liberal Arts has named accomplished jazz musician and associate professor of music David Ake the director of its School of the Arts.

This week's music lineup continues as Jazz! Carson City 2011 has several shows planned in the coming days. Jazz! Carson City is a month-long festival hosted by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers.
