The Mason Valley Wildlife Refuse is now open for fishing for the season. The Wildlife area is located just north of Yerington NV.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. Combined with live music and comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Carson City region is in store for a busy three days. Read on for more information.

Hello fellow anglers, Not to much fishing going on with out crazy weather patterns. But I did have a chance to venture down to the California Sport and Boat Show a couple weeks ago. If you have never been, I highly recommended you set the date for next year.

Each year, a national “Point-in-Time Count” is conducted in any community that receives U.S Housing and Urban Development funds as a way to figure out how many people are suffering from homelessness in each community in order to better apply resources.

With some clouds, sunshine and a weekend warmup ahead, going into the last Thursday of January brings a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, library activities, Pilates at the Brewery Arts Center, a South Carson Street pre-construction meeting at the Carson City Community Center that will be streamed live by going here. On Friday night, the local Elks Lodge chapter hosted a sold-out dinner and fundraiser event in support of the Carson City Search and Rescue volunteers.

The program included a a live auction, raffle drawing, and presentation of the Elks National Foundation grant of $2,500. These Gratitude Grants are used to support local, charitable activities such as hosting a community clean-up day, purchasing supplies for a homeless shelter, or organizing a school literacy fair.

The Elks Lodge is celebrating 150 years of service.

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan will offer mammography screenings in Gardnerville, Dayton, Reno and Carson City through the end of the month.

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

Hello fellow anglers! We are just a few days away from the Topaz opener on January 1, 2020 after its closure three months ago to this date.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has planted 51,000 pounds of trout, which is approximately 17,800 individual trout.

As a note, the NDOW planted Eagle Lake, Triploid and the Tahoe strain as well. I would have to say, if you don't catch a fish on opening day. It might be time to look for a new sport. With all the trout in the lake with the additional poundage that has been added, fishing should be pretty good.

Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! A 50-year-old flooding issue in a Carson City neighborhood could finally see a solution with the “North Carson Area Drainage Plan” proposed by Carson City Public Works.

According to Robert Fellows, P.E., Chief Stormwater Engineer for Public Works, an issue involving flooding or “ponding” in a particular Carson City neighborhood has been on the books as an issue since Carson City was still Ormsby County, going back to the 1970s.

Everyone has a disability of some kind, but most learn how to cope with or overcome it; however, not everyone with a disability is aware enough to recognize whether or not they even have a physical challenge. These individuals have a severe and profound physical and neurological disability, cannot care for themselves, need full-time assistance, and are some of the kindest human beings in the world, many of whom are students in the Carson City School District and at CHS. Each year, students in the CHS Comprehensive Life Skills program make crafts to sell at the annual CHS Craft Fair and give as gifts.

Calling all kids: Do you have a knack for crafting or making something? We want to see it! Come to the Carson Mall in Carson City on Dec. 14-15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and show us what you have. Kids will be showing off their unique gifts, and crafts that they have made.

With the season's first big winter storm expected to arrive later Tuesday evening into Thanksgiving, you can still get in activities around the capital city before the snow flies. There's a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a job fair at the Carson Nugget, fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, a Carson City School Board meeting and more.
