With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. CARSON CITY — Chinese immigrants were abundant in the mining camps of the Sierra Nevada in the latter half of the 19th century.

In the 1860s, the first Chinese immigrants found their way to Aurora, Nevada and by the 1870s, they had settled along King Street in Bodie, California, creating a sizeable Chinatown. By the 1880s, they cornered the woodcutting market, providing cordwood and charcoal to neighboring residents, businesses, and ranches.

A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday night for suspicion of DUI, hit and run, obstructing and gross misdemeanor child endangerment, a sheriff's report states.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "New Crop 2019", by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, June 7, 5 to 7 p.m. The artists will give a brief talk about their work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from June 7 to Sept. 26, 2019.

The photography exhibit of Melody Hoover, at the Nevada State Assembly Building, is ending with the close of the 2019 Legislature Session. The fourteen framed photographs are of Nevada Landscape and will be shown at the Nevada Artist Association Art Gallery, on a rotating basis, starting June 1.

Memorial Day is the day we celebrate those men and women who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
