Carson City middle schools receive grants for hands-on STEM programs

Students and teachers at the two middle schools in Carson City — Carson Middle and Eagle Valley Middle Schools — now have access to a curricular program that will give students an advantage in their education and future careers. The opportunity was made possible with the help of Tesla’s K-12 Education Investment Fund, the Nevada Department of Education and Project Lead The Way.

NV Energy to begin work on Highway 50 at south shore Tahoe to replace vaults

NV Energy will begin work Wednesday, Sept. 18 on Highway 50 in Stateline at south shore Lake Tahoe to replace equipment in two underground electric vaults. The work, including excavation and repaving, is estimated to be completed by October 11. The schedule is subject to change based on weather.

Three cars, one on top of another, have been dumped illegally along East 6th Avenue in Sun Valley and deputies investigating the dumping are asking the public for any information that will help identify and locate the person or persons responsible.

It was a day like any other when ShaRae Staley woke on August 3 in her home on N. Edmonds Street in Carson City. She received a message from her husband, who she had separated from six weeks previous, that he wanted to come over and make their children breakfast and take them to the park. ShaRae agreed, as any mother would.

When her husband, Cortney Staley, arrived, nothing seemed amiss. He came and made their children breakfast, and she went to work.

Carson City man arrested for commercial burglary said he was 'reorganizing' and 'just wanted his job back'

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of S. Carson Street and E. 5th Street Thursday afternoon for suspicion of felony attempted commercial burglary and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription.

Zachary Kane Sisler was arrested after Carson City deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress.

NV Energy reports power outage in Mound House area

NV Energy reports damage to equipment is the cause behind a power outage Tuesday night in the Mound House area. The utility reports 428 customers are without power as of 9:30 p.m. The outage was reported to NV Energy at 7:47 p.m.

At around the same time as the outage, a brush fire was reported in the area. Those near the brush fire say it has been knocked down. NV Energy says power should be restored by 12:30 a.m.

National Night Out, one of Carson City’s largest summer celebrations, is returning Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park for its 17th year. And by all indications, it will be the biggest yet.
