I-580 and Eastlake reopen, structures lost in 2,000-acre Little Valley Fire

UPDATE 6:22PM: The Little Valley Fire has burned more than 2,000 acres and 22 homes. The fire is burning west of Franktown Road, moving north toward Bowers Mansion and Joy Lake Road. The Unified Command transitioned to the Sierra Front Type 3 Incident Management Team at 5 p.m.

Virginia City wild weekends ahead feature Labor Day celebration, camel and ostrich races

Virginia City celebrates the next two weekends with historic proportions including the Great Civil War Days this Saturday through Monday, the annual Labor Day parade and then prepares itself with giddy and up go the following weekend with the 57th annual International Camel and Ostrich Races.

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hike Program are evening hikes of 4 to 6 miles in length with elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. The evening hike will usually be 1 1/2 hour duration or more.

Meet at the Brewery Art Center, costumes are highly encouraged, and then meander around our beautiful downtown with some other fun people. Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program Fundraiser

Join "STEP" for our fundraiser to raise money for local Veterans and kids from the Boys and Girls Club for therapeutic riding sessions. We will be outside the CAL Ranch store at 2035 N Carson St. on Saturday June 25th from 11-2 selling hotdogs, drinks, and raffle tickets for wonderful prizes! We will also have Moses the Clydesdale and Flash our miniature horse on hand to visit with. So bring the kids out for a fun time!

We know better than trying to predict springtime weather in the Sierra foothills. A new wave of showers is expected Monday, but it could show up whenever it likes. Rain or shine, Earth Day in Reno’s Idlewild Park is always fun and informative. Washoe Lake State Park events in April feature astronomy program, wildflower walk and hikes

Washoe Lake State Park is hosting a variety of events during the month of April, including a basic astronomy program focusing on year-round (circumpolar) constellations, a wildflower walk, a full moon hike and a guided hike through the sand dunes.

Dirt bike, ATV riders urged to follow the law, keep the riding off road in designated areas

It’s getting to be that time of year again when dirt bike and ATV (all-terrain vehicle) riders head out to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. In doing so though, a reminder, riding your dirt bike or ATV on the streets is not legal as they are designated “Off road use only” vehicles.
