Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program highlights 15 years of achievement

Launched at the 1997 Presidential Forum at Lake Tahoe by then President Bill Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore, the Environmental Improvement Program (EIP) is a partnership of more than 50 federal, state, and local agencies, private interests, and the Washoe Tribe.
Forest Service begins thinning Friday on west side of Fallen Leaf Lake
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 08/15/2013 - 3:49pmForest thinning on public land along the west side of Fallen Leaf Lake will begin Friday, Aug. 16, the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit announced Thursday. Thinning will take place south of the dam and will move closer to the dam in a couple of weeks.
The Forest Service will issue a forest order to close a portion of the area from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily beginning Aug. 19, through Oct. 11 for public safety due to heavy equipment operations and the felling of trees.
UNR scientists collaborate to preserve Lake Tahoe

The title is sarcastic, the article really expressing the author’s frustrations with driving in our city. While the points made in the article are valid, they’re certainly not unique to Carson City. This is simply the reality of driving a car in an urban environment.

The show, directed by Andie Anderson, will run a final time this weekend, August 16-17 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
Neighborhood outreach is theme of Carson City Sheriff's National Night Out

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and brings thousands of Carson City residents to the park annually in a open house environment, providing partnerships between law enforcement and the community. In Carson City, this event represents the culmination of efforts made to address crime, drugs, and violence and is the largest event of its kind in the area.
New series debuts at OXS Gallery with Hackett-Morgan work- Reception Aug. 15

The Arts Council will host an artist talk at 6:15 p.m. and a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.
“A Western Dependence” features two series of paintings and prints created over the last 14 years by Hackett-Morgan who is drawn to neglected billboards, closed roadside attractions, and other evidence of abandonment in the desert west,” said Susan Boskoff, executive director of the Arts Council.

Grato, who will graduate in the 2016 class, is a marine biology and wildlife biology double major, attained a 3.33 grade point average or above.
In recent years Unity College has gained national attention for a variety of achievements including its focus on sustainability science, the leading-edge of 21st century ecological problem solving and the vanguard in the fight for the mitigation of global climate change.

All boats entering Lake Tahoe without a Lake Tahoe wire inspection seal are required to go through a mandatory inspection and purchase an inspection sticker as part of the public, private, multi-agency effort to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species (AIS). California, Nevada governors agree to preserve Lake Tahoe Compact

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced Tuesday an agreement that renews the partnership, which has been under threat of repeal.

Reid announces more than $5 million for Virginia City, Gold Hill wastewater upgrades

The existing plant is past its useful life.

Benefit Corporations Bill Discussed by Senate

AB 89, one of the bills discussed, would form benefit corporations, which are corporations that spend money on community outreach programs and if legislation passed, would allow investors to put money into causes that they care about while also possibly getting a financial gain.

The local forest service has been at the forefront of working collaboratively with user groups and the public to ensure that protecting the environment of this special place, still allows for uses that are compatible and fun.
