Upcoming Carson City School Board Meeting to discuss Teacher School Supply Reimbursement

The Carson City School District will hold its next School Board Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The meeting with begin with the Superintendent’s Report, which includes the Seeliger Choir Holiday Performance, Recognition of Ms. Jennifer Cherpeski for her years of service on the Family Life Committee, and general announcements.

Everyone has a disability of some kind, but most learn how to cope with or overcome it; however, not everyone with a disability is aware enough to recognize whether or not they even have a physical challenge. These individuals have a severe and profound physical and neurological disability, cannot care for themselves, need full-time assistance, and are some of the kindest human beings in the world, many of whom are students in the Carson City School District and at CHS. Each year, students in the CHS Comprehensive Life Skills program make crafts to sell at the annual CHS Craft Fair and give as gifts.

Carson City job growth up 3.6 percent over year, Reno up 4.8 percent

Job growth in Carson City increased by 1,100 jobs or 3.6 percent over October 2018, according to metropolitan area figures released Tuesday by Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Reno employment figures increased 4.8 percent, and Las Vegas, 1.3 percent over the course of the year.

Nevada's JOIN Inc. wins $175K Google training program grant, additional $125K up for grabs

CARSON CITY — JOIN Inc. was one of five Nevada organizations chosen to receive a $175,000 investment from Google.org for its innovative proposal to create economic opportunity in the community. JOIN Inc. will launch Career Bound NV Success Skills, a training program designed to ensure Northern Nevadans have access to basic technology and employability skills training needed for successful employment.

Nevada jobs up over the year in October, unemployment remains unchanged

CARSON CITY — Employment in Nevada fell by 1,800 jobs over the month but is up 30,800 over the year, according to data released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate is unchanged from September, at 4.1 percent, and is down 0.3 percentage point when compared to last October.

Carson City man arrested for carrying suspected white-supremacist dangerous weapon

On Friday evening, Special Enforcement Team deputies were patrolling in the area of Carson Street and Robinson Street when they observed a green pickup truck traveling northbound on Carson Street, and saw that the driver was using his cellphone.

CARSON CITY — Initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits totaled just over 8,400 in September, down over 1,200 claims, or 12.8 percent compared to August, according to the latest figures compiled by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Relative to September 2018, claims are up 1.8 percent, with 150 more claims.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation on Thursday announced the appointment of two administrative positions for divisions in Carson City and Las Vegas.
