From 395 south, turn right on Jack's Valley Road and meet at the trailhead parking lot on Jack's Valley Road. About 1/2 mile past the elementary school on the right. Athletic shoes required. Bring water, a friend, and well-mannered dogs, if you wish.

Youngsters 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 will be competing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Fremont Elementary School throughout the month of May. Participating teams are the Packers, 49ers, Seahawks and Saints.

Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Hit the Carson Mall for Cowgirls and Lipstick or learn about rare coins at the Nevada State Museum. Students to get fit, then douse themselves in color!
The students, families, and friends of Mark Twain Elementary School will walk, jog, and run their way toward a healthier life while raising funds for their school. The My School Color Run program aims to go beyond traditional fund raising. Rather than sell goods, this program aims to engage the entire student body in a fitness initiative that will instill a life-long healthy way of living.

The Elks Club’s monthly pancake breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m., but they’ll start serving bloody marys at 7 a.m. if you need some hair of the dog. Go for a strike at Carson Lanes with their Breakfast and Bowl special. The Capital City Community Band welcomes area elementary school choirs onstage during today’s free concert, A Salute to Young Musicians, at the Community Center.

Obituary: Services March 3 for Patricia Marie Welden of Carson City
Submitted by editor on Mon, 02/29/2016 - 2:45pmPatricia (Patty) Marie (Mummey) Welden, 54, was born May 9, 1961 in Bethesda, Maryland. She said goodbye to this life and left for Heaven on February 28, 2016.
Patty grew up in a Navy family and moved around quite a bit in her life.
Patty spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. She was stationed in Lackland AFB, Suwon AFB, in South Korea, as well as Mather and Norton Air Force Bases, both in California.
Patty graduated from the University of Western Florida in Pensacola with a BS in Education.

Carson City students show KNPB they are ready to learn

The visit was part of KNPB’s Ready To Learn workshops, which bring special learning topics into classrooms around the Reno-Sparks and Carson City areas.
Thursday's guest educators taught students about the forces of motion, KNPB Ready To Learn Facilitator Joy Foremaster said.

Operation Warm: Carson City firefighters distribute 235 new coats to students in need
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/09/2015 - 1:53pmThe Carson City Firefighters Association purchased 235 brand new coats for Carson City students in transition between permanent homes through Operation Warm after raising almost $7,500, nearly double the amount raised in last year’s drive.
Firefighters on Wednesday began distributing coats to children selected by the Carson City School District at Fritsch Elementary School, which is the first stop on the distribution tour of district schools.
