Outdoors with Don Q: Two unforgettable, secret birthday surprises
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 05/15/2014 - 12:46amThursday, May 8 was my birthday, and Elaine had arranged two unforgettable, secret surprises for me as a present.
She had previously asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I told her, "Heck, I have everything I want, let's go to the cabin with Jim and Kathi (our son and daughter-in-law) and have a quiet steak and lobster dinner up there."
The Quilici Cabin is located on a steep hillside between Portola and Davis Lake in Plumas County, California, and we like to go there as often as we can to enjoy the accommodations, scenery, wildlife and peace and quiet.

Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/07/2014 - 11:34amSpend time talking with students in Michelle Crain’s drama class at Dayton Intermediate School and it’s not long before one realizes the recurring theme is “we’re family.”
As the students relentlessly rehearse ahead of their public performances of “Romeo & Juliet,” taking place Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17, the ties that bind while challenging at first, have been woven into a tapestry of unconditional acceptance, tolerance, care and dependability, qualities not always readily seen on a school campus.
