This week's Women to Women Nevada features Liz Andrews Booth, founder of the Esperanza Foundation, owner of Liz's Biz, and the President of the Carson City Downtown Business Association. In this episode host Carol Paz interviews Liz about her knowledge and advice about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has successfully overcome her PTSD.

The event was filled with great music, lights and amazing eye-candy.

Taste of DownTown Carson City 2013 winners announced

Here are the winners as picked by participants of the 20th annual Taste of DownTown Carson City to support Advocates to End Domestic Violence. There were 44 participating restaurants and businesses and 10 bands representing this year's event.

Downtown Business Association spruces Carson City with tree campaign

The Carson City Downtown Business Association was recognized by Carson City Parks and Recreation for its donation of 17 new trees recently planted around town.

Carson City nominated for Benjamin Moore 'Main Street Matters' program

Carson City and Virginia City are two of more than 100 U.S. cities nominated by Benjamin Moore Paints for a complete repaint of downtown, officials announced Friday.

Benjamin Moore launched its “Main Street Matters” initiative May 22. In the contest, consumers around the country can cast their vote online and pick which 20 U.S. Main Streets should be revitalized.

In a news release, Carson City Planning Director Lee Plemel said the initiative is timed well with what is going on in downtown Carson City.

Carson City Cops and Kids open house lives up to its 'safest party on the street' reputation

With sunny skies, a gentle breeze and plenty of children and their parents, the 10th annual Cops and Kids open house, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday, lived up to its reputation as the safest party on the street.

More than 2,000 attended the four-hour event, which featured games, prizes and demonstrations by Carson City Sheriff's Office patrol officers and personnel. The event is designed for children and their parents to get quality meet-and-greet face time with law enforcement personnel.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 388 are ringing in the New Year by knocking on doors throughout Carson City. They are making personal visits to those who helped bring the Traveling Wall Memorial to Mills Park for “Battle Born Days” and the Nevada Day celebrations.

Carson City National Night Out recognized for community participation

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office received an early Christmas present after being notified it has received national "Outstanding Citizen Participation” recognition for its 2012 National Night Out crime, drug and violence special prevention event held in August.

Vietnam Vets Roar Through Carson City

The Carson City Sheriff's Office escorted about 500 Vietnam Veterans as they rode through the city on their bikes. They were escorting the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial that is being erected at Mills Park as part of Battle Born Days and the Nevada Day Festivities. The Downtown Business Association merchants were on hand to wave flags and cheer them on.

Results from Legends of the West 2012 Bike and Car Fest

Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest 2012 has announced the winners of its Show and Shine, held on June 30 in downtown Carson City. A great day was had by all – the weather cooperated – and people strolled among the beautiful vehicles and chatted with the owners and restorers. The CCSO 9th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge attracted a dedicated crowd who watched all the competitors and cheered their favorites on to victory in all the competitions – Continuous Ride, Slow Ride, Team Ride, and the spectacular Last Man Standing.

Legends of the West Bike & Car Fest is coming to Carson City on June 30, 2012. The planning for this event is going fast and furious and we are anticipating a great second annual show. This event is being held on June 30, 2012, under the auspices of the Carson City Downtown Business Association and is being managed by Arlington Group Events. The CCSO 9th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge will take place at Legends. See these highly trained men and women compete for glory in slow motion!

Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts National Night Out on Aug. 2

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the National Association of Town Watch will co-sponsor the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mills Park.
The theme for this year is “101 Days of Crime Prevention and Safety” which was envisioned by Sheriff Ken Furlong to promote safety throughout the summer which continues well after National Night Out. Festivities run from 5 to to 8 p.m.

Nugget Project tidbits

There is an interesting discussion going on over at the Nevada Appeal site concerning the Nugget Project.

The story begins two week ago when Guy Farmer wrote a rather harsh column that slammed the Nugget Project. In response, last week there was a guest column by Michael Douglass criticizing Farmer's take on the subject.

Thousands attend National Night Out event in Carson City

Hundreds of families making up, perhaps, several thousand people, gathered Tuesday night at Mills Park in Carson City to attend the region's largest public safety event, the 27th annual National Night Out.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the National Association of Town Watch will co-sponsor the 27th Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event at Mills Park on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Carson City will join forces with thousands of communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, more than 36 million people are expected to participate in America’s Night Out Against Crime.

Attendance was “up” during this winter’s downtown ice rink season…
