Carson City deputies make separate felony drug-related arrests

A 32-year-old Dayton woman was arrested early Friday morning in Carson City and faces a felony charge of possessing drugs without a prescription and misdemeanor charges including driving on a suspended license for DUI, open container and violation of bail conditions.

Carson City brothers jailed; items from burglaries recovered

Two Carson City brothers were arrested and stolen property recovered from home burglaries reported earlier this year. Kyle Canyon Curtis, 25, and his brother Matthew Blair Curtis, 21, face felony charges involving burglary and possession of stolen property.

Matthew Blair Curtis was arrested Feb. 19, 3:02 p.m. in the 1000 block of Carson Street. Kyle Curtis was arrested at the same time at the corner of Washington and North Carson streets.

Carson City authorities make multiple weekend arrests

A 39-year-old Las Vegas man faces a felony burglary charge after allegedly clipping security tags off several items of clothing at a Carson City department store and putting them on underneath his clothes.

Anthony Abruzzo was arrested Feb. 17, 8:28 p.m. in the 3800 block of Carson Street after security from a local department store called authorities about the man was believed to be taking shoes.

A culmination of more than two months of community service activity, the members of the Silver Sage 4-H Community Club met with Traci Trenoweth of Carson City Advocates to End Domestic Violence and presented her organization with a car load of donations.

Carson City authorities make felony drug trafficking arrest

A Carson City man was arrested and faces multiple felony drug charges after authorities found 14 grams of meth hidden in the man's underwear.

Eduardo Segura, 27, was arrested at Hot Springs Road and Roop at 10 a.m. Feb. 8. He was pulled over because of a vehicle license plate that was missing. Upon contact, officers recognized him because of other entanglements with the law including time in prison that involved a Carson City shooting in which he was deported to Mexico following the sentence, the arrest report states.

Carson City authorities made numerous felony and misdemeanor arrests recently, including arrests for domestic violence, car theft and probation violation court orders.

A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Feb. 7, 7:04 p.m. in the 400 block of Simone Avenue on an outstanding felony warrant out of Douglas County.

Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks jailed again; allegedly attacks family member

Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks was arrested early Sunday morning in Las Vegas on suspicion of domestic violence after allegedly attacking a family member in a physical confrontation and then attempting to take a law enforcement officer's gun.

The arrest, reported at 12:30 a.m. came only days after Brooks, 40, agreed to a leave of absence while being investigated for a number of bizarre events that began with his arrest for allegedly making threats to Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Several domestic battery, DUI arrests made prior to New Year's holiday period

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies dealt with a number of misdemeanor-related crimes in the days leading up to the New Year's holiday period, with several arrests made for domestic abuse, fighting and driving under the influence. Here are some of those arrests:

Carson City roommates fight over computer repair time, one jailed for battery

A 63-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 22 after allegedly pushing and punching his roommate, a senior citizen, to the ground in an argument over a computer issue.
The victim, said to be at least 65 years of age, went to the Carson City Sheriff's Office at 5:53 p.m. to report the battery. He told authorities that his roommate broke his cell phone in half when he attempted to call police for help.

Man faces felony fraud charges after credit card machine and cards found inside room

A San Francisco man was arrested and faces felony credit card forgery charges after equipment used to make cards was found inside a Carson City hotel room, authorities said.

Joshua Jeremiah Sims, 41, was arrested in the 900 block of South Carson Street Dec. 15 at 3:45 p.m. According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, officers responded to a call about credit card making equipment found inside a room after Sims had failed to check out earlier in the day.

Carson City District Attorney Rombardo investigating man practicing without law license

After receiving numerous complaints, the Carson City District Attorney's Office is investigating a local man who has allegedly defrauded several people in the Hispanic community by telling them he is a credentialed lawyer.

The suspect is practicing law without a license and has been telling people he is a paralegal or a lawyer, said Carson City District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo. He is believed to have taken hundreds if not thousands of dollars from unknowing members of the community.

Carson City authorities make several felony arrests over weekend

A Carson City man faces a felony domestic violence charge after he admitted to beating his wife and putting her into a choke hold until she passed out.
Jerry Alexander Cisneros, 26, was arrested Sunday night in the 200 block of Adams Street.

According to the arrest report, the victim's wife stated that Cisneros punched her in the face and mouth and then choked her until she passed out for about 10 minutes inside their home.

Carson City shows its holiday best at Snowflake Festival of Lights

Being the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.

Holiday cheer at two-day Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights

Carson City's annual Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights has become so well received over the years that the 2012 festival will now run for two days. The enhanced event is tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ice skating continues until 10 p.m.

Tonight's night's festivities begin on the capitol grounds with the state tree, a bristlecone pine, and downtown Carson City being lit along with a procession including Santa, Mrs. Claus and the 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble.

Carson City authorities make a number of assault, domestic violence arrests

A Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her family. According to the arrest report the mother of the woman who was beaten called authorities saying that her daughter had been assaulted.

Domestic Violence Awareness month culminates with Light the Night Oct. 20 at Riverview Park

With October designated Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence will hold a Light the Night 5K and 10K Walk/Run at Riverview Park on October 20.
This event, a fundraiser for Advocates, is a spinoff of the national Take Back the Night campaign, bringing it closer to home and creating Carson City's own event to bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual assault, said Traci Trenoweth, volunteer coordinator for Advocates.

Carson City authorities make numerous domestic violence related arrests

Carson City authorities kept busy this weekend responding to a number of misdemeanor domestic violence calls. Several arrests were made.
A 42-year-old cook was arrested after allegedly pushing his wife and 12-year-old daughter because they were "nagging" him. According to the police report, instead of assaulting the woman and daughter further, the man went outside the home, punched a glass window instead with his forearm causing a laceration that required medical attention. The incident happened on Sept. 23 in the 400 block of Lee Street. The man was being held on $3,000 bail.

Chamber, Wells Fargo and domestic violence support group team up for Nevada Day raffle

Six lucky people will have a chance to ride in the famous Wells Fargo Stagecoach in this year's Nevada Day Parade in October.
The Carson City Chamber, Wells Fargo Bank, and Advocates to End Domestic Violence have teamed together to offer the memorable Nevada Day experience for six lucky persons who purchase a $5 raffle ticket to ride in the Wells Fargo stagecoach this Nevada Day, Oct. 27. Proceeds of the raffle will go to support the programs of the Advocates.

Soroptimist Stroke to Help needs golfers, sponsors, donations

Soroptimist International of Carson City seeks golfers, tee or green sponsors, and raffle prize donations for their 11th annual Stroke to Help Golf Tournament. The tournament is Saturday, September 29, at Eagle Valley Golf Course. Golfers may choose to play either the duffer-friendly East Course or the challenging links-style West Course. Play on both courses will be a 9 a.m. Shotgun start, with a Scramble format. Cost is $85 per player, and includes a Continental Breakfast, greens fee and cart, tee prizes, and a Barbecue lunch afterwards.

Carson City DA report services to crime victims jump by 57 percent

Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo reports that his Victim-Witness Services Division has seen a 57 percent increase in services provided to victims of crime in the first half of the year. Between January 1 and June 30, 2012, nearly 300 victims were served by the grant-funded Victim-Witness Coordinator. This represents a 57 percent increase over the same reporting period in 2011. Of the numbers 219 were victims of domestic violence, 73 were victims of stalking, and 7 were victims of sexual assault.

Crime Log: Carson City man arrested on Oakland murder warrant

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested Donald Tremayne Britton, 38, a Carson City man, at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Britton was arrested on a fugitive from justice (murder) warrant in his name and extradited to Oakland by the Oakland Police Department Thursday. There is no bail.

Officers have also arrested the following individuals based on misdemeanor allegations:

  • A 28-year-old Carson City woman for a contempt of court warrant in her name.
  • A 51-year-old Carson City woman for a petit larceny warrant in her name.

More than 2,000 hungry locals and visitors filled downtown Carson City Saturday night for the 19th annual Taste of Downtown, a culinary event over 20 blocks that featured 43 restaurants, seven bands and plenty of community bonding.
From tangy barbecue ribs to fresh made pizza and lasagna, authentic tacos, sushi rolls and decadent desserts, there was more than enough food and good times to go around for this Carson City culinary fundraiser that benefits Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Grace Christian Academy Completes 2nd Annual Serve-a-thon

The students of Grace Christian Academy (GCA) in Minden recently visited various local community service agencies and organizations to volunteer their time as part of the school’s Second Annual Serve-a-thon. GCA dedicates a week each school year to serve agencies and organizations within the area. Local businesses, corporations as well as private donors pledge money donations to the school in the fundraising effort that has the added benefit of developing character within the students.

Crime Log: Carson City man arrested for prescription pills

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals on felony allegations:

  • Adam Haney, 22, a Carson City man, at 9 p.m. Saturday at the 2100 block of East William St. Haney was arrested for possession of prescription pills without a prescription (cyclobenzaprine and hydrocodone). Bail has been set at $2,500.

Tickets to the Taste of DownTown Carson City go on sale June 1

Taste of DownTown Carson City tickets, 2,000 of them, will go on sale June 1. The popular culinary event of the summer, Taste of DownTown is held on the third Saturday in June each year and presented by Advocates To End Domestic Violence to benefit victims and their children.

Crime Log: Carson City inmate destroys jail television set, injures fellow inmate

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Jerald Fahey, 38, a current inmate at the Carson City Detention Facility, had the additional allegations of battery by a prisoner and gross misdemeanor destruction of jail property (a television set) added to his list of allegations after an incident at around 6 p.m. Saturday. An additional bail of $17,500 was levied.

Crime Log: man arrested for sexual assault in Carson City

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals over the weekend for felony allegations:

  • Jeffrey David Volosin, 29, a Gardnerville man, for several warrants in his name: lewdness with a child under the age of 14 (two counts) and sexual assault on a child under 14 (five counts). These warrants were issued on the 24th of February out of Carson City. Bail has been set at $250,000.

Crime Log: Carson City deputies arrest couple for kidnapping allegations

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested several people for felony allegations this weekend, as well as one man on a gross misdemeanor allegation.

  • Patrick William "Roach" Ouellette, 29, an unemployed Reno man, for felony warrants in his name of 1st degree kidnapping with the use of a deadly weapon, second degree kidnapping with the use of a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon. Duellette was also alleged to have committed felony extortion, which carries a $250,000 bail charge.

Love Shouldn’t Hurt – Recognize the Signs of Dating Violence

This month, Get Healthy articles have been focusing on love – loving your heart, celebrating Valentine’s Day, and sexual health. But what happens when love isn’t what it’s supposed to be? What if violence is involved and someone is at risk for physical or psychological harm? Since February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, this column will bring attention to some of the warning signs of dating violence, and highlight some of the resources in our community that are there to help victims of abusive or controlling relationships.
