DETR employee tests positive for COVID-19, Carson City call center to handle southern Nevada claims
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/13/2020 - 5:45amThe Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation was made aware of positive COVID-19 case in the Las Vegas unemployment insurance call center on Saturday, July 11.
Upon learning of the positive result, the call center was immediately closed and remediation efforts began as set forth by state and CDC protocols. The employee is self-quarantined, and there is no immediate exposure risk to the public as the facility has been closed to the public since mid-March.
Regular Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance Rise by 12.4 percent; Continued Claims See First Weekly Increase Since May
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 07/11/2020 - 11:21amFinalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 12,484 for the week ending July 4, up 1,374 claims, or 12.4 percent, compared to last week’s total of 11,110. This is the second consecutive week of increases in regular initial claims.
Through the week ending July 4, there have been 562,486 initial claims filed in 2020, 540,834 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.
DETR: Regular Unemployment Insurance Claims Continue to Decline, PUA Initial Claims Rise

This is the eighth consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims.
Through the week ending June 20, there have been 538,892 initial claims filed in 2020, 517,240 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

This is the seventh consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims. Through the week ending June 13, there have been 528,545 initial claims filed in 2020, 506,893 of which have come in the last fourteen weeks.

Over 500,000 Regular Initial Claims Filed in 2020; Weekly Declines in Initial and Continued Claims for Second Consecutive Week

This is the fifth consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims. Through the week ending May 30, there have been 507,177 initial claims filed in 2020, 485,525 of which have come in the last twelve weeks.

Carson City's unemployment also swelled to 6.7 percent, up from 4.1 percent in February, and up from 4.5 percent a year ago.
