The Cracker Box is growing! At least in the kitchen. The long time Carson City restaurant is expanding for the second time in its 35 year history. The exterior portion of the expansion has been completed for a few months, but the restaurant must shut down to complete the inside portion. While most customers won’t actually see the new addition, the expanded kitchen area will have a huge impact on the business.

Break a leg, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company! The Broadway musical, Mary Poppins, opens today and is sure to be one of their best productions yet. For those who don’t know their lines, head to Improv at the Brewery Art Center and see what you can come up with on the fly. Live music hits the stage at Westside Pour House, Glen Eagles, Living the Good Life, and Comma Coffee.

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his monthly “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant.

All Carson City residents and business owners are invited to attend. “The monthly get-togethers provide me with a great opportunity to get feedback from the people directly impacted by decisions the board makes” Bonkowski said.

“I think it’s extremely important that I stay in touch with our residents, hear their ideas and get their input.”

“A current hot topic is whether there is, or will be, a Tesla effect in Carson City. I would love to talk with residents about that” Bonkowski said. “Growth, and its potential impact on our community, are important issues to talk about, but I’m open to discussing any city related issue.

What a crazy week in the Sierras! Afternoon thunderstorms for the last several days, flooding, hail, and even snow in Yosemite are definitely unusual for this time of year. The storms are expected to subside this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine. Break a leg to the Proscenium Players as they open Murder in an English Manor at the Brewery Arts Center. Senior Follies debuts this year’s performance, Flashback, at the Community Center.

I have a confession to make. I love Carson City. I’m fifth generation Nevadan, and have been in Carson since I was three years old. I created a Facebook page called ‘I Love Carson City’ almost three years ago because I was getting tired of hearing ‘nothing ever happens in Carson’ or worse ‘I would have gone to that if I had known about it.’ That is why I do what I do. I am a long time local. I love my valley: the people, the views, the restaurants, the parks, the bands and artists. Community is what community does. We are as great as we want to be. Support your local venues, artists, non-profits, and they can do wonders. Registration is underway for the 21st Gourmand Golf Scramble. The tournament, which is hosted by the Cracker Box, Café at Adele’s and Js’ Old Town Bistro, benefits the Carson City Community Counseling Center.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, May 31, on the Eagle Valley West Course. Registration is $150 and includes breakfast, a gin fizz, lunch, gourmet treats along the course, and a fabulous tee prize. All skill levels are encouraged to play.

Long time Carson City restaurant, The Cracker Box, is celebrating 35 years in business over Mother’s Day weekend. To mark the occasion Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell and the Board of Supervisors joined a representative from Congressman Mark Amodei's office to recognize the restaurant Friday morning with certificates and congratulations.

Breakfast is such a great way to start out the day, and local favorite, the Cracker Box, has been serving it up for 35 years. Bonkowski says the year is already off to a busy start. Last week’s ground breaking on the Multi-Athletic Center is a testament to that “After 20 years of debating and planning, the MAC is finally becoming a reality.

With the start of the 2015 Nevada Legislative Session Bonkowski’ says this month’s meeting is a good way for residents to ask questions about how the session impacts the city.

I don't know about you, but I am ecstatic to hear that this cold snap is on it's way out. It has been a chilly few days and I'm ready for my teeth to stop chattering. Hello, Carson City! The holiday season is in full swing with tree lightings, craft fairs, Santa sightings all around the area. Every week, I create a list of the fun stuff and events going on around the Carson City area for my Facebook page, I love Carson City. I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, keep my ear to the ground, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community.

The Breakfast with Brad meetings take place on the first Friday of each month. “It’s a great opportunity for me to hear directly from our residents” Bonkowski said adding, “2015 is going to be a very busy year for the Board. A lot of people have opinions, ideas and questions about city plans and issues. The morning meetings are a great way for residents to talk with me in person.”

“I’m sure this week’s election outcome will be a hot topic” Bonkowski said, adding “The downtown improvement project was at the forefront of the two supervisor races, so that’s sure to be a topic as well, but I’m interested in hearing from people about everything that impacts Carson City.”

He added “I’m hearing from lots of people regarding the MAC, the animal shelter, the potential corridor improvements and of course medical marijuana. It’s important that I get input from residents, and also to explain how the process will work.”
