Hello Carson City and welcome to Thursday, March 14, 2019. The warmup continues today with sunny skies ahead. We're six days from hitting the first official day of Spring. Are you ready? Good morning Carson City. Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Many of us woke up to a nice dusting of snow on the grass and around the hillsides. The white stuff won't last very long. While technically not Spring until March 20, a week from today, there's a noticeable warmup ahead, with high temperatures near 60 by Sunday.

UPDATE: The Subaru, Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be leading an Awareness Workshop at the Carson City Community Center in the Bonanza Room tonight. Leave No Trace teaches outdoor skills and ethics, minimizing our impacts and enjoying the outdoors responsibly. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Go here to register.

Today has earned a happy dance, because there will be an extra hour of daylight with which to enjoy the outdoors. Just remember to set your alarms so you aren't an hour late for work Monday!

Daylight Savings Time is about to begin, harkening the approach of Spring. Winter, though, continues its stubborn hold on the region, so bundle up this weekend in spite the extra hour of daylight. There's a chance of snow showers throughout the weekend with daytime highs only into the low 40s.

And remember to set your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night!

Heading into the home stretch that is Friday, March 8, 2019 we welcome you to the end of the work week. More spring-like weather is ahead, which isn't exactly all sunshine and flowers. Here we find ourselves heading into Monday, March 4, 2019. Hark, is there sunshine ahead? Well, yes is the short answer. The longer one is explained by the National Weather Service, which says we are in between weather systems. Take advantage of Monday's sunny weather after the fog lifts and get out for a walk or bike ride. Changes are expected later Tuesday.

This weekend calls for a celebration, because the first Saturday of March is upon us and that means the Carson City Downtown Business Association Wine Walk come rain, snow, wind or shine. And get this: Today's Wine Walk is the last one before Spring.

A brief history and overview of calligraphy followed by practice with samples of popular current styles. Class will also cover various tools and inks, as well as illumination. Students will complete a text of their choice, suitable for framing. The class is offered through Western Nevada College's Continuing Education program. It is $50. This Western Nevada College Continuing Education workshop will introduce you to the magical art of Easter Egg painting, using a wax resist dyeing process. We will outline simple (or not so simple!) designs on eggs that have already been drawn into quarters to save time, then we will proceed to wax and dye each element in its turn. There is no limit to your imagination!

Western Nevada College offers 30 hours of new driver education. The class meets requirements to obtain a Nevada driver's license. It uses lectures, interactive CD's, guest speakers and videos in a classroom setting to cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and challenging situations.

Whether you are a new or continuing watercolor student, learn to splash and play while discovering the expansive possibilities of watercolor at classes offered through Western Nevada College's Continuing Education program.

In each 4-week class, we will explore several different approaches to watercolor. We will also investigate art fundamental topics concentrating on one topic per 4-week session. Students may choose their own subjects, with instructor input as to relevance based on individual skill level.

Did you ever want to create really cool things out of books? Once read, they sit on a shelf and start to collect dust. Why not learn what Debbie and Rachael of “My Thousand Words” (see MyThousandWords.com) have created. They will be teaching you a few designs that they have made and sold in galleries throughout the northwest and across the country.

The Sierra Nevada Realtors will host the Alyce McCracken Scramble for Scholarships on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Toiyabe Golf Course in Washoe Valley.

This annual golf tournament is played in honor of Realtor Alyce McCracken, a resident of Northern Nevada who had a passion for continuing education and training. Proceeds from the tournament benefit local high schools in the communities served by the Sierra Nevada Realtors including the counties of Carson City, Douglas, Churchill, and parts of Lyon.
