The forums will present both candidates for races and ballot proposition questions that will be on the ballot for the general election on November 4. The public is invited to attend these forums, which will be held at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room. Doors open at 5:30 and the forum begins at 6:00 each evening.

The deadline to submit applications for Official and Signature Nevada 150 events will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12. Over 400 events have been held across the Silver State since Nevada Day 2013, in celebration of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, with many more ahead. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners have requested a State of Emergency due to the cumulative series of flash floods that have taken place since July 20, 2014, in Douglas County. The cumulative series of floods has now exceeded the county’s resources, and the declaration will allow for help with repairing public infrastructure such as County Maintained roads, culverts, and drainage.

New York Times author Novella Carpenter will be at the 3rd and Curry Street downtown Carson City Farmer’s Market on July 19 at 11 a.m. to chat about her bestselling memoir, Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer.

Carpenter and northern Nevada agriculture expert Mark O’Farrell, of Hungry Mother Organics, are set to engage in a kitchen-table visit. Under a large tent, with seats for 100, the conversation will be led by northern Nevada’s KTVN news anchor Erin Breen. The special event is aimed at raising awareness about the vital role farmers play in our lives.

Ed’s Dog House and the Spoke Bar and Grill in Carson City in conjunction with the WNC Veterans Resource Center invite all riders to participate in the first 'Dogs of War Poker Run.

All proceeds from this event will go to support Veterans in need from our community, a portion going to a WW2 Veteran who was victimized during a home invasion on Memorial Day.

Many celebrations are scheduled statewide in the month of July. These Nevada 150 events help celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the state’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held July 1 through July 12.

UPDATE: Get it while it's hot this Saturday and Sunday in Carson City. The Honor Flight Nevada program and Glen Eagles will host the High Sierra Regional Chili Cook-Off and Craft Fair this weekend.

International Chili Society chefs will compete for a chance to go to the World Cook-Off in Las Vegas. The public is invited to sample red and verde chili as well as salsas. Tasting kits are $3 each. The "People's Choice" Chili award will be determined by the vote collected by everyone who samples.

In celebration of the Silver State’s Sesquicentennial, and in conjunction with National Get Outdoors Day, residents and visitors are invited to “Discover Nevada State Parks” on Saturday, June 14.

Park visitors will receive free day use admission and free fishing (no license required) at all of Nevada’s 23 State Parks. In addition, the first 150 vehicles at each park on June 14 will receive a complimentary deck of commemorative Nevada Heritage playing cards provided by Nevada’s State Historic Preservation Office and its partners.

Make time to visit The Greenhouse Project and a few things come clear: Agriculture is, after nearly 15 years defunct, alive and well on Carson High School’s campus, and the student population whose class time is integrated here, are developing life skills that will serve them in future, while currently realizing they have a hand in making a difference in their community.

Examples of augmented reality will be exhibited and demonstrated by Agency 36 in anticipation of the August launch of the Carson City Experience. The event will be held May 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carson HorseShoe Club.

Join park rangers for a leisurely spring wildflower walk through Washoe Valley. Discover some of the many beautiful wildflowers in bloom on this two mile, moderate walk starting at the main boat ramp. Phlox, Daisies, Lupine, and many more wildflowers will be highlighted on this walk.

The service will honor the 126 Nevada Peace Officers that have been killed in the line of duty. In 1998, the memorial was dedicated on the Capitol grounds to recognize the ultimate sacrifice these officers made in service of their communities.

The Northern Nevada Fire Wives will hold their first fund-raising barbeque from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, at the Carson City Fire Department at 777 South Stewart Street, to raise funds to support firefighters and their families when tragedy strikes them.

On August 1st, a new publication called the Carson Quarterly (CQ) was delivered to the Carson City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The CQ is the first product presented by the new, downtown business, Agency 36.
