Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! Today we’ve got a ton of great events, including three separate music festivals at Shoe Tree Brewing Co., Bowers Mansion, and the Brewery Arts Center!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival, a bluegrass festival at Bowers Mansion, Celtic favorites at the BAC, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides, standup comedy at the Carson Nugget, a block party at Silver Oak Golf Course, a Boy Scouts car show at Fuji Park, "'Kutz for Kids' and more.

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

Come join us at this free and fun event at Comma Coffee in Carson City on Wednesday, August 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a friend or a family member or two and join in the creative fun at this Community Art Card Creating Social Circle.

The Status of Women in Nevada will host their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 15 starting at 12 noon at the Carson Nugget. We will be sitting at the high table in the Alatte Coffee Shop.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will host “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, August 2 from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to attend.

In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with David Bugli with the Mile High Jazz Band Association to talk about Carson City Jazz and Beyond 2019.

The countdown to the weekend begins as we head into midweek, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 with daytime highs in the low 90s and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. Topping the list is the Northern Nevada Development Authority's Legislative Roundup at Casino Fandango. If you want to know how this year's legislative session will affect business, be there. For those who look to the stars for the big picture, there's a multi-media hands on science day presentation at the Nevada State Museum as part of the Apollo 11 moon landing celebration; then there's Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center and lots more. The University of Nevada has announced that students who were set to be put up in the Argenta Dormitory at the Reno campus will now be relocated to a tower at Circus Circus following the July 5 explosion that destroyed a good amount of the building and left a handful of students with minor injuries.

In addition, the resident dining facility on the first floor of Argenta, in which all dormitory students with paid meal plans eat during the year for most meals, was also damaged and will remain closed for the next academic year.

Heading into Thursday, June 27, 2019, there's plenty to do and see around the Carson City area as we march toward an action-packed weekend. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, a Farmers Market in Dayton, a discussion on climate change at Western Nevada College, a history presentation on Chinese woodcutters at the Nevada State Museum, a presentation by the NNDA Executive Director at a GOP monthly meeting, Cruise Night at Wing Stop, an information meeting on the Ross Gold Park master plan hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space. Food Truck Thursdays will take place every 2nd and 4th Thursday throughout the summer at Mills Park in Carson City.

Event runs from noon to 9 p.m. The first Thursday featured the Bus Boy Mobile Cuisine, Kim’s Kool Treats, and Press Coffee & Waffles with music by Farris Neon.

Asian Street Eats will be joining this Thursday with more trucks joining each event.

With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

Good day Carson City and welcome to the last day of spring. Today is Thursday, June 20, 2019. Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. Events, activities and more are lined up today including the first day of the three-day police officer motorcycle challenge at Mills Park, morning walks, Cruise Night at Empire Ranch Golf Course and live music outdoors at Living the Good Life.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of July. Programs highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources.

The 2019 Ironhorse Rail Camp’s four-day course on train safety and railroad operations is quite the ride at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

From June 13-16, course attendees explore the basic tasks and operations such as railroad and train safety, specific positions on the train crew and the various railroad equipment used during the 20th century.

It’s almost summer, so that means Wheeled Food Wednesdays are back!

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on restoration day. Participants will build fencing to protect the threatened native Tahoe Yellow Cress and survey for aquatic invasive species.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2019 poster and program cover art contest is Reta Hanks, a member of the Nevada Artists Association, Capital City Arts Initiative and several other artists organizations in Nevada and California.

Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Nevada Humanities celebrates the 27th season of Great Basin Young Chautauqua with the Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase. Performances by Great Basin Young Chautauquans will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 and Saturday, June 1, 2019, starting at 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Restless Artists Theatre, located at 295 20th Street in Sparks. Seasoned Chautauqua performer Doug Mishler will serve as the evenings’ master of ceremonies and will share recollections of the Young Chautauqua and Chautauqua experience throughout the program.

As we head into Tuesday, May 21, 2019 there seems to be some debate brewing about the weather. Is the persistent series of cold weather systems normal or not? We spoke with a forecaster from the National Weather Service about it and he noted that everyone has an opinion. Some folks swear this happens every Spring, storm after relentless storm through the entire month of May.
