“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. The Carson City Board of Supervisors held a discussion regarding a wastewater and water rate increase in order to fund critical projects such as the Quill Treatment Plant, which had provided 50 percent of the water for the city as a whole and now is not being fully utilized due to needing upgrades and rehabilitation.

Unless you live under a rock you are certainly aware that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Despite that only 30% of the US population is currently achieving the daily recommended amount of physical activity. You may not be aware though that most fitness centers report losing approximately 50% of their members each year. Elite gyms will attempt to mitigate the loss of their members by offering programs that encourage attendance and a sense of community at their facility, such as group exercise classes. These elite gyms will still see losses of approximately 30% of their members yearly.

Carson City Supervisor Lori Bagwell, local Hookah Lounge business owner Nathaniel Killgore and resident Aaron Sims have all thrown their hats in the ring for the position of Carson City Mayor. Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell is not seeking reelection after 11 years.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, at one point during Wednesday’s raucous presidential debate on the Las Vegas Strip, suggested her opponents take their sparring down to the MGM Grand for fight night.

After three years of announcing the availability of scholarships to those who would seek to pursue a degree in hospitality, the Carson City Chamber was finally able to award a $1,135 scholarship to a very deserving student who has chosen to pursue a degree in hotel management.
