Swing for a good cause at the Annual Gourmand Golf Scramble at Eagle Valley Golf Course: Charlie Abowd of Adele’s and his cousin, Jerry of the Cracker Box, promise to feed you well.

Ambrosia, Pablo Cruise to headline Concert Under the Stars benefit for Greenhouse Project

The 7th annual Concert Under the Stars, a benefit for the Greenhouse Project, will feature a July 8 double billing with 70's and 80's smooth classic rock powerhouses Ambrosia and Pablo Cruise.

The concert was announced by Cafe at Adele’s owner Charlie Abowd on his Facebook page Saturday. Ticket sales will be announced soon. The show is produced by John Procaccini of Chili Bop Entertainment and will be in the back outside area of Adele's Restaurant and Lounge.

Hundreds dish up homemade soup for the soul at Carson City’s Empty Bowls Project

Delicious, nourishing soup for the soul served steaming hot for the price of a handmade artisan bowl was the early warm-up Friday favorite at the second annual Empty Bowls Project held at Telegraph Square in downtown Carson City. The feast kicked off the annual Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights at the Nevada State Capitol.

Cookies with Santa at Adele’s returns Dec. 13 to benefit Ron Wood Family Resource Center

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy complimentary hot cider, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, visit with and have their picture taken with Santa, while helping provide Christmas for children in need.

Café at Adele's hosts fifth Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner Monday to benefit the Greenhouse Project

Lucky attendants at the fifth annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, Nov. 10, will enjoy six courses created by chefs Charlie Abowd and Mark Estee.

The event, hosted the first time as a fundrasier for The Greenhouse Project and a tribute dinner to Paul Abowd, restaurateur and Charlie’s father, has grown into a benefit for The Greenhouse Project on site at Carson High School.

The reception begins with hors d’oeuvres at 5 p.m., followed by dinner.

'American Mustang' Sells Out Ahead of Thursday Showing

“American Mustang, The Story of A Girl, A Cowboy and A Wild Horse,” shows to a sold-out audience, Thursday at Galaxy Fandango in Carson City.

Sponsored by Cafe at Adele’s and Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital, organizers hope to bring additional showings to Nevada’s Capitol later this fall.

“I think it is because it is a 3-D film, we could not move it to a bigger theater,” said Margie Quirk. “There will be a showing coming up in Sparks and we are going to try to get more showings scheduled for September.”
“American Mustang” played two weeks in Portland, five sold-out shows a day.

Songwriter, cowboy poet Mike Beck returns Friday to Carson City for wild horse rescue benefit

Mike Beck returns to Café at Adele’s at 6 p.m., Friday, March 14, in a benefit performance for The Joyful Horse Project, and in support of wild horse rescue efforts in Northern Nevada.

Artsy Fartsy Gallery of Carson City will have an array of Western art by local artists available. The hat will be passed and donations, which will be matched by Café at Adele’s, as well as a portion of art sales will go toward supporting wild horse rescue efforts in Northern Nevada.

This is a letter to the editor addressed to Carson City Board of Supervisor Jim Shirk: Jim, Your vote Thursday although disappointing was not a surprise. I believe either you have no experience in running a business and its challenges or you have no respect for the power of small business. We small business owners are also tax and fee payers to not only City, State but also Federal government. We are also the employers.

Carson City residents Karen Abowd and Mary Fischer, will be honored tonight at The Atlantis Hotel and Casino, when they receive the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada’s 2013 TRIUMPHANT Awards.

Karen Abowd will receive the Environmental Leader award for her work with The Greenhouse Project, a non-profit community greenhouse located on Carson High School’s campus that teaches sustainability and new agricultural principals and produces food for the community. Mary Fischer will receive the Community Service award for her work with Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides (G.R.O.W.), a non-profit she founded in 1997 with the purpose of beautifying area roadways using landscaping and art.

A favorite performer on the Cowboy Poetry circuit, singer-songwriter, poet and working cowboy Beck is touring in support of his album “Tribute,” which showcases original horse songs written through the years, raising money for The Joyful Horse Project, a non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas that pairs combat veterans with rescue horses being trained for rehabilitation.

Nevada advocate for elderly, former Carson City Supervisor Janice Ayres dies

Janice R. Ayres, a tireless advocate for the elderly and the disabled, an unshakable Democrat and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors died Monday morning at Carson Tahoe Hospital after battling cancer. She was 92.

Ayres was the executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, a position she held since 1979. RSVP Board member Charlie Abowd confirmed her passing and said directors will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss arrangements.

Café at Adele’s joins Northern Nevada Hopes’ ‘Dining Out for Life’ in making a difference in the lives of those living with HIV.

On Thursday, April 25, Café at Adele’s will donate 20 percent of every dining ticket total to Northern Nevada Hopes so the non-profit organization can continue its work of raising awareness about and providing STD, HIV and Hepatitis C testing, as well as providing extensive support and medical care for those living with HIV in northern Nevada.

The second show of the 10th annual Summer Concerts on the Veranda Series takes place tonight at Café at Adele’s. The music plays every Thursday through Sept. 13, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Offering a line-up that ranges from jazz and world music to American rock and country, this season showcases some of the best talent from Nevada and California.
"Each year, the concert series has grown and we have enjoyed a wide range of music by talented performers, all of whom bring something special to the table," said Charlie Abowd, chef and co-owner of Cafe at Adele's.

Greenhouse Project benefit exceeds expectations

This year's A Concert Under the Stars, a fund-raiser for The Greenhouse Project has exceeded all expectations, according to Karen Abowd, project president.
"Preliminary numbers look like we raised between $32,000 and $34,000," Abowd said.
The goal had been to clear between $20 and $25,000.
The sold-out event hosted by Cafe at Adele's Wednesday,was headlined by PabloCruise and featured opening music by Jaime Kyle and The Mighty Surf Lords. Chili Bop Entertainment, co-owned by John Procaccini, long-time Carson City resident, was the event's promoter.

Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, featuring Pablo Cruise, Jaime Kyle and Northern Nevada’s own The Mighty Surf Lords.

The event takes place July 11 at Café at Adele’s and begins with the silent auction at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. with happy, fun-filled music by The Mighty Surf Lords, who also played the venue last year and who open this year for Jaime Kyle and Pablo Cruise.
