With everything happening across the country and the world, it’s important to take the time to be thankful for what you have as well as to give back to those in need.
Third Annual Empty Bowls Carson City Event to help raise hunger awareness
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 11/23/2015 - 5:43pmThe third annual Empty Bowls Carson City event to help raise hunger awareness, will be Friday, Dec. 4 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is part of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and takes place inside the First Presbyterian Church, 306 W. Musser St., the site of the second tree lighting event of the evening.
There will be a raffle for dozens of locally made art pieces and other merchandise, generously donated to the cause. Demonstrations on a potter's wheel will also be occurring to show you how bowls are made.
Empty Bowls Carson City gives everyone the chance to choose a bowl made by local artists and fellow citizens for a minimum $12 donation that includes comes all you can eat soup generously donated by many local restaurants.

Hundreds of Motorcyclists Attend Charity Ride for Howell Family
Submitted by Darla Bayer on Sat, 10/10/2015 - 2:21pmWith fewer onlookers than riders, Saturday's fundraising ride for Deputy Carl Howell's family began at 11 this morning.
The ride from Carson City Sheriff's office to Reno Harley Davidson was very well attended. Polished motorcycles lined the street in front of the Sheriff's office and court building. It took more than four minutes for the bikers to get underway led by Sparks motorcycle officers.

Downtown Coin Club makes donation to Howell family; motorcycle rally on Saturday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 8:40pmA fundraiser by The Downtown Coin Club for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell raised $540. The donation, along with a custom-made plaque, was presented to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Friday.
The money was raised through the generosity of Downtown Coin customers, and matched by the Downtown Carson City Coin Club, said Downtown Coin owner Dan Wilson.
Bull riding Saturday to raise money for family of slain deputy Carl Howell
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 1:57pmManuel Souza is bringing back his Smackdown Bull Riding tour to Carson City on Saturday — this time as a fundraiser for Deputy Carl Howell, who was killed in the line of duty Aug. 15.
“I think it’s the right thing for us to do as people,” said Souza, who is working in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Association. “Police officers do a thankless job. But they’re always there when you need them, aren’t they? I think it’s important we do this.”

$5 donation at the door with all proceeds going directly to local cancer foundations. Junior team skates at 5:00. Kids/Teens costume contest at 6:00. Adult scrimmage at 6:30.

The exclusion (before adjusting for taxable gifts) is currently $5,430,000. That can be left without a federal death tax. Some states, about 19 of them, do have estate or inheritance taxes, but California, Florida and New York join Nevada in not having a state death tax.

This weekend the Marine Corps League of Carson City Silver State Detachment 630 will hold an annual outreach event at the Walmart store on Retail Drive on Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This outreach is for charity donations to the good of our community which includes Carson City, Dayton, Virginia City, Minden and Gardnerville.

They were less concerned with what individuals should be allowed to do and more concerned with what the government should or should not be allowed to do.
These rights that we claim as ours aren’t really rights at all, but rather guarantees of what the government is not allowed to do to us.

The event brings dozens of law enforcement officers to Carson City annually to compete in team riding and obstacle courses along Carson Street. Saturday's events will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing.

Among the motor patrol officers competing from around the region through courses along downtown Carson City streets, there's also classic cars, many local craft brewers and wineries, beer and wine tasting, vendors, food and contests.

You can meet Author Laura Lea White at the Browser’s Corner Book Shop tonight; copies of her book ‘Generational Gifts: The Legacy of Evelyn Marie’ will be available. Silver Dollar Cruise Night is at Dunkin' Donuts; every Thursday through summer you'll find hot rods, street racers, and cool old cars at a different location.
