By the time many of you read this, Thanksgiving will have come and gone, but the feeling of giving back is most definitely still in the air. With everything happening across the country and the world, it’s important to take the time to be thankful for what you have as well as to give back to those in need.

The third annual Empty Bowls Carson City event to help raise hunger awareness, will be Friday, Dec. 4 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is part of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and takes place inside the First Presbyterian Church, 306 W. Musser St., the site of the second tree lighting event of the evening.

There will be a raffle for dozens of locally made art pieces and other merchandise, generously donated to the cause. Demonstrations on a potter's wheel will also be occurring to show you how bowls are made.

Empty Bowls Carson City gives everyone the chance to choose a bowl made by local artists and fellow citizens for a minimum $12 donation that includes comes all you can eat soup generously donated by many local restaurants.

Hope you had a Happy Nevada Day! It's now 50 days till Christmas and 60 days until 2016! Wait a minute! I know I was just celebrating the 4th of July recently. How did we get here so fast?

Honor Flight Nevada invites you to the Kilroy Klassic Fundraising Golf Tournament being held at Dayton Valley Golf Club on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, the last great fall tournament of the year.

Entry includes Golf, Cart, Range Balls, Continental Breakfast, BBQ Lunch, Shirt, Raffle Ticket, player goodie bag, silent auction, and most importantly, FUN!

There will be two events hosted by Sassafras on Oct. 23 and 25, to provide an opportunity to help raise money for Nichole Millim. The events will feature live music, raffle drawings, drinks and dinner specials. A percentage of the restaurant’s proceeds for the two evenings will also be donated to Nic’s fundraiser account.

With fewer onlookers than riders, Saturday's fundraising ride for Deputy Carl Howell's family began at 11 this morning.

The ride from Carson City Sheriff's office to Reno Harley Davidson was very well attended. Polished motorcycles lined the street in front of the Sheriff's office and court building. It took more than four minutes for the bikers to get underway led by Sparks motorcycle officers.

A fundraiser by The Downtown Coin Club for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell raised $540. The donation, along with a custom-made plaque, was presented to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Friday.

The money was raised through the generosity of Downtown Coin customers, and matched by the Downtown Carson City Coin Club, said Downtown Coin owner Dan Wilson.

Manuel Souza is bringing back his Smackdown Bull Riding tour to Carson City on Saturday — this time as a fundraiser for Deputy Carl Howell, who was killed in the line of duty Aug. 15.

“I think it’s the right thing for us to do as people,” said Souza, who is working in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Association. “Police officers do a thankless job. But they’re always there when you need them, aren’t they? I think it’s important we do this.”

The Carson Victory Rollers are holding their annual breast cancer awareness scrimmage, this year with a Halloween theme "Save the Boooo-bies"- Ghosts vs. Goblins.

$5 donation at the door with all proceeds going directly to local cancer foundations. Junior team skates at 5:00. Kids/Teens costume contest at 6:00. Adult scrimmage at 6:30.

Urban Roots is holding their annual fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 4. The event takes place from 4:30 to 8:30pm in the FarmHouse at Urban Roots, 3001 W. Fourth St., in Reno. This special event features local food, drinks, art, and presentations to showcase the sustainability of garden education in northern Nevada.

An annual event since 1989, the Nevada Day Classic - presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers - is an 8K run, a 2-mile run and a 2-mile walk through the beautiful, historic West Side of Carson City, Nevada. The races precede the Nevada Day Parade celebrating Nevada's entry into the Union.

• Treasure hunt on Saturday at the Carson City Historical Society Rummage and Yard Sale at the Forman-Roberts House Museum at 1207 N. Carson St. Free tours of the museum will also be available during the 9am-4pm event.
• Take a ride on the Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine at the Nevada State Train Museum Friday through Monday.

This weekend the Marine Corps League of Carson City Silver State Detachment 630 will hold an annual outreach event at the Walmart store on Retail Drive on Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada (RMHC® Northern Nevada or the Reno Ronald McDonald House®) is now accepting registrations for its 4th Annual Red Shoe Gala at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015. Motorcycle patrol riders from Nevada and California were welcomed by dignitaries Saturday for the opening of the 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in downtown Carson City.

The event brings dozens of law enforcement officers to Carson City annually to compete in team riding and obstacle courses along Carson Street. Saturday's events will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing.

The inaugural Battle Born 1864 Brews, Bikes and Bubbly Nevada Day Fundraiser and 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge is underway now in downtown Carson City.
Among the motor patrol officers competing from around the region through courses along downtown Carson City streets, there's also classic cars, many local craft brewers and wineries, beer and wine tasting, vendors, food and contests.
Friday's activities include:

Oakland Raiders Offensive Line Coach, Mike Tice, and Carson Valley Inn Owner Mike Pegram, present a check in the amount of $128,500 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch.

Accepting the check was Board Members Sherry Dilley and Brenda Robertson, and Susie Messina, Special Events Coordinator for the Clubs.

Classic cars, motor bikes, beer judging, tattoo and pin-up contests, food, live music and array of family-friendly activities will fill downtown Carson City and Fuji Park this weekend for three events: The Battle Born 1864 Brews, Bikes and Bubbly fundraiser, the 12th annual Carson City Sheriff's Office Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge and the 31st Run What-Cha-Brung car show.

This Friday and Saturday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. During this event Carson Street from Robinson to Musser will be closed as motor officers train with one another on a Peace Officer Standards in Training approved course.

Tickets are available for a Saturday crawfish feed and evening with Oakland Raiders Offensive Line Coach Mike Tice. The event will be at TJ's Corral at Carson Valley Inn, beginning at 7 p.m.

This is the kick off to the 5th Annual Mike Tice Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada.

Tickets for the crawfish feed charity event are $40 and includes food, beer and live music provided by "Decades."

The Sunday, June 21, golf tournament held at the Genoa Lakes Golf Course is sold out.

You can meet Author Laura Lea White at the Browser’s Corner Book Shop tonight; copies of her book ‘Generational Gifts: The Legacy of Evelyn Marie’ will be available. Silver Dollar Cruise Night is at Dunkin' Donuts; every Thursday through summer you'll find hot rods, street racers, and cool old cars at a different location.
