Adventure on the dirt roads around Carson City and the surrounding areas can end badly if you are not paying attention to the condition of the road or keeping an eye on it as you travel. Washboards, loose dirt or gravel can cause you to lose control and crash if you are not careful.

Carson City weekend arrests: Threats, warrants, man pulls down pants and flips off security camera

Here are the latest arrests from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office from Friday through early Sunday morning. A 27-year-old Carson City man, Bradley Paul Steelmon, was arrested Friday, 2:20 p.m. in the area of 20 College Parkway on a felony warrant, insurance fraud, issued June 9, 2014 out of Tahoe Township Court.

Pair jailed on felony charges in vehicle burglary, used stolen credit cards to shop, eat pizza

Two were arrested and face multiple felony charges related to a vehicle burglary that happened Friday where stolen credit cards were used at a casino and to purchase around $900 worth merchandise, clothing and pizza, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested were Joshua Allen, 34, of Richmond, Calif., and April Grover, 29, of Bay Point, Calif. Each face felony charges of auto burglary, commercial burglary, credit card fraud, prescription drug and controlled substance possession and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. The two were already in jail facing other charges.

Handful of DUI, assault arrests over mostly quiet New Year’s in Carson City

A 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday, 12:58 a.m. in the 2600 block of Highway 50 East on suspicion of DUI, driving in the middle lane for 200 feet and violation of bail conditions, all misdemeanors, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, officers stopped the Dayton man after observing him enter the middle driving lane past Airport Road where he traveled approximately 500 feet in the center before stopping at the red light at Highway 50 and Lompa Lane.

Carson City sheriff's deputies issue 29 warnings during crosswalk operation

Carson City Sheriff's Office conducted a Crosswalk Enforcement Operation Tuesday that resulted in 29 individuals being stopped, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
Of these stops, 21 were for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. In addition 2 stops were made for following too closely, four for speeding, and two for cell phone use.

Carson City sheriff's crime report for Thursday

A 23-year-old transient, Sean Paul McCracken, was arrested Tuesday, 4:05 p.m. at Selby and La Loma streets on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, an officer stopped the vehicle for an expired license tag and made contact with the driver. The officer smelled a light odor of marijuana and asked the man about it. The man told the officer he had a “roach” in the ashtray. The officer asked if that was all he had. The man said yes.

Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Suspects jailed on assault, stalking and warrant charges

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on felony charges, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christoper Matthew Couch is being held on $35,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 3800 block of South Carson Street regarding two people arguing. Dispatch advised they were getting several 911 calls and one of the reporting witnesses said one of the men hit the other.

Carson City man arrested on felony battery, stolen property charges

A Carson City man who had a felony warrant for possession of stolen property was arrested Monday at a Brick Road resident on suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Stephen Mendes, 42, is being held on $35,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 5000 block of Brick Road for a report of domestic battery. Officers arrived and met with Mendes and asked what happened.

Man wanted on felony battery charge arrested at Carson City restaurant

A Carson City man wanted on a felony charge of battery causing substantial bodily harm in which the victim suffered severe eye damage was taken into custody Saturday night.
Rico Wiggins, 27, was arrested at around 9:25 p.m. at a restaurant in the 3800 block of South Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. A 28-year-old man, Bryan Gaudette, was also arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive, a felony.

State Song Record: Home Means Nevada sing-along at 25,000 feet

Carson City resident Ken Beaton was flying from Las Vegas to Reno Thursday morning on Southwest Airlines when, at 10 a.m., he commissioned a flight attendant to help him lead 154 passengers and crew members in singing “Home Means Nevada” at 25,000 feet.

The 39-year-resident of Carson City printed up 25 sheets of lyrics, passed them out to passengers and encouraged them to share and sing along. A flight attendant recorded it on a cell phone while he sang it over the 737 jet’s public address system.

With first winter storm arriving Friday, Nevada officials offer winter driving tips

With the first winter storm of the fall arriving in the Sierra Friday and Saturday, the Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada Highway Patrol offers these winter driving tips to help motorists drive more throughout the upcoming season.

On average, more than 2,000 crashes occur statewide every year due to unsafe driving in snow, ice and other wet conditions, such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or failing to maintain a lane and overcorrecting.

Woman jailed after allegedly buying $207 worth of booze on stolen credit card

A Carson City woman was jailed Thursday on felony suspicion of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card which had been reported lost from a grocery store earlier this month, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Melissa Luone Carter was arrested in the 500 block of Bath Street on the crimes that allegedly took place from Oct. 11-12. According to the arrest report, officers made contact with Carter following an investigation.

Man arrested on misdemeanor charges after eluding officer in pursuit

A Carson City man was jailed Monday on four misdemeanor charges including eluding an officer after he was clocked on radar going more than 70 mph in a 45 mph zone and driving through a stop light, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a motorcycle patrol officer doing traffic enforcement in the 5000 block of Carson Street recorded the 34-year-old driver going 73 mph. The officer pulled behind the truck and activated his motorcycle lights and siren.

Carson City deputies make several felony related arrests during weekend

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested a pair Friday on felony drug conspiracy and trafficking charges after finding nearly 28 grams of methamphetamine inside a vehicle.

The arrests happened Friday, 8:54 p.m. in the area of Hot Springs and Nye. David Pomjoon Kim, 44, of Carson City and Cory Michael Harmon, 24, of Gardnerville, each face felony charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale, drug trafficking and conspiracy. They were taken to Carson City jail with bail amounts of $40,000 each.

Woman jailed after allegedly lunging at bartender, kicking officer

A 46-year-old woman was arrested Thursday on battery charges after she allegedly lunged at a bartender, hit a bar manager with a cell phone and, later, kicked an officer as she was being arrested for disorderly conduct, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Bicycling has become a very popular form of transportation, exercise and sport. We have seen a sharp increase in riders around the Carson City area and have observed both good and bad bicycle operators.

Carson City sheriff's arrest log for Tuesday

A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday on a felony charge of parole violation and misdemeanor charges of petit larceny after allegedly taking clothing and a watch from two department stores, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Shawn Anderson was booked into jail at 6:38 p.m. without bail awaiting a hearing for the parole violation charge. According to the arrest report, Anderson was stopped outside of Kohl’s by loss prevention after being seen leaving the store with a shirt. Anderson threw the shirt at the security officer and took off running, leaving his getaway vehicle.

Five arrested after Saturday night melee at Fuji Park

A disturbance call during a party at Fuji Park in Carson City led to the arrests Saturday of five people after a near-riot broke out in which officers were punched and kicked by several suspects, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Officers from Douglas County and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called in as backup to control the melee.

Man jailed on felony child abuse charge

A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of child abuse after allegedly hitting and punching two juveniles, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Michael Todd Presley was arrested at 9:10 p.m. in the 4500 block of Short Putt Drive. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to Governor’s Field at 4:15 p.m. regarding a report of suspected child abuse.

What Works: Discovering opportunity in adversity

It was a typical Friday. I was between appointments at the corner of Goni and College Parkway when, out of nowhere, my vehicle lost power. There was no warning, no flickering lights, just “boom, boom, out go the lights” as the song goes.

Stuck in the turning lane, there was only one thing I could do, take action. I called my insurance company which offers free towing. While on hold with them, I texted and got my 5:30 p.m. appointment handled. Once I was assured the tow truck was on its way, I paused. Everything happened so fast.

Pedestrian operation along Carson Street results in 50 citations

Fifty traffic citations were issued Friday during a pedestrian crosswalk operation along the north and south ends of Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff's sergeant said.

The operation, in cooperation with the Nevada Highway Patrol, was done as a way to address pedestrian safety and a growing number of motorists failing to yield as pedestrians cross sidewalks, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Last month Carson City had three injury accidents involving pedestrians who were struck by vehicles as they used marked crosswalks.

Carson City man jailed on misdemeanor threats charge

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 100 block of Corbett Street on a misdemeanor charge of allegedly making threats, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

At 9:15 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area regarding a noise complaint. Upon arrival from the street the officers could hear loud music coming from an apartment. An officer met with the suspect inside the apartment who agreed to turn down the music.

Carson City man jailed for allegedly forging prescription from doctor

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4:32 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of forgery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Robert Wayne Smith was jailed on $5,000 bail. Officers spoke with the pharmacist who received a call from a local doctor who asked the pharmacist not to fill any new prescriptions for the man as they were all forged, the arrest report states.

Holiday DUI checkpoint Friday near Lake Tahoe in Douglas County

Several northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will team up and “Joining Forces” this Independence Day as an additional security measure in providing for a safe holiday weekend.

On Friday afternoon and evening, police officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, deputies from the Washoe, Lyon and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices, and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will conduct a DUI road block on Highway 50 in Douglas County near Lake Tahoe. Motorists passing through the checkpoint will be briefly greeted by one of the law enforcement officers.

Douglas County authorities arrest man on child pornography charges

A 55-year-old man was arrested June 26 on suspicion of several felonies including possession of child pornography after investigators found camera equipment inside the home of a victim, a Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Michael Joseph Donovan was booked into Douglas County Jail on $50,015 bail and remains in custody as of Monday night. According to Sgt. Pat Brooks, Donovan went to the home of a family friend and allegedly planted a cell phone equipped with a camera inside a bathroom, capturing an image of the private area of another person.

Carson City man faces felony charges after entering home to take a shower

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on felony charges of violation of probation and being a sex offender failing to register. Mario Moreno was arrested in the 200 block of Jeanell Drive.
According to the arrest report, an officer assigned to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team responded to a residence for a report of a suspicious subject at a residence.
