The first week of November marches along with sunshine to continue into the foreseeable future. Events ahead for this Thursday include a regular meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a Mammovan stop at Nevada Health Centers, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, and an evening with local artist Rebecca Fox at Artsy Fartsy Gallery. Wednesday marks 13 years since the opening of the outdoor Labyrinth located at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The unique space was made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City.

In 2006, under the leadership of past president Rafael Cappucci, the Rotary Club contributed $75,000 to build the Labyrinth, and gave another $200,000 in support of the Cancer Center project over a four-year period.

Going into the middle of the work week we can expect sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s. Events around the capital city Wednesday, Nov. 6 include gallery showings, a Veterans Day assembly at Sierra Lutheran High School, the first "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, a presentation, "Nevada’s Ancient Rock Art: Art for All Times" hosted by Capital City Arts Initiative, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

Settling into the week as we head into Tuesday, Nov. 5, activities around the capital city include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Salvation Army holiday job fair, plus a grant workshop through the Nevada Arts Council, an evening showing of the 1951 film "An American in Paris" hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club, pole fitness and swing dance lessons at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

Just seven tickets remain for the 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $200 and must be purchased in advance; none will be sold at the door.

A warmup is in the forecast this week as we head into Monday, Nov. 4, 2019. Expect sunny skies with daytime highs in the upper 60s. But you'll want to bundle up after the sun sets as night time temperatures will be in the low 30s. Activities Monday include a lunch discussion with Nevada Appeal columnist Guy Farmer, the first of free Monday yoga classes offered through Partnership Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing and more.

The 2019 season for CHS girls golf was a great experience for everyone on the team. This year, the team was comprised of five girls: Karen Beglin, Sophia Taggart, Karrina Ferris, Brooke Gudmundson, myself, and our coaches, Wade Greenlee and Jack Butler.

After leading deputies from multiple agencies on a chase through Carson City and into Washoe Valley Friday evening, a 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested at gun point after crashing a vehicle and running across the I-580 on foot.

Today Carson City Sheriff’s K-9 Officer Tarzan met with staff, patients, and their friends and families at Carson Tahoe Regional Hospital, offering festive joy, comfort, and soft cuddles on Halloween. Tonight is trick-or-treat night. We ask all to take superhero actions to promote a safe and fun Halloween.

Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. Lined up today are fall train rides in Carson City and Virginia City, a women veteran's support group meeting, and a a discussion with survivors, family and doctors about metastatic breast cancer. A 26-year-old transient man was arrested in the 2200 block of N. Carson Street on three counts of battery with a deadly weapon, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of indecent conduct after allegedly attacking a sheriff’s deputy.

These odds, and the women and men it affects, is why BHGE has hosted Bunko for Breast Cancer since 2004 donating over $300,000 in support of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center.

The statistics are staggering. Thirty percent of the people diagnosed with breast cancer go on to get metastatic breast cancer.

Metastatic beast cancer is an incurable disease. It is when breast cancer has spread beyond the breast, possibly to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body. Around 40,000 people a year in the US die from it. It is the advanced part of breast cancer and it is rarely discussed.

The 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City.

“I am thrilled this year to be working with chefs and sponsors Collin Smith and Chris Nealon of Roundabout Catering,” said Chef Charlie Abowd, who first started the dinner 12 years ago as a tribute to his father, restaurateur Paul Abowd, and 11 years ago, decided to turn the event into an event that provides a large part of TGP’s annual operating budget.

Long overdue, there’s a new place in Carson City that will be able to comfortably house visitors — and that means friends and family who want to stay more than a few days in your place — in a comfortable home-like setting. CARSON CITY — The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation recently received a $10,000 donation from the Sierra Nevada Realtors. The donation was raised through the Sierra Nevada Realtors participation in Carson Tahoe’s annual Hopefest event and through the Realtor’s annual Cornhole for a Cause competition.
