Carson City fire and ambulance called to pedestrian accident at South Carson Street

Carson City Fire Department responded to an accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of South Carson Street and Eagle Station. The accident was reported at 8:51 a.m. The victim was to be taken by ground ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Injury accident in the northbound lane of Carson City freeway near College Parkway ramp

UPDATE: Carson City fire and rescue responded to a single vehicle traffic accident with injuries Monday night in the northbound lane of I-580 near the College Parkway ramp. Care Flight was also called.
The accident was reported to NHP at 8:14 p.m. The vehicle had airbag deployment. Traffic was re-directed around the accident scene.

Carson City firefighters stop brushfire in field at Stewart Indian School

UPDATE: Traffic was allowed to proceed off of Center Street near the Stewart Indian School, the site of a brush fire adjacent to the old football field. Firefighters have doused the flames and begun mop up operation. The fire burned approximately 2 acres, said Carson City Fire Chief Bob Schreihans.

"We are trying to determine the cause of it," he said.

While structures were threatened at one point, firefighters were able to halt the spread. No structures were damaged. The location straddles Carson City and state property. The State Fire Marshal has arrived and is also investigating.

Carson City Fire Department called to structure fire on Pheasant Drive

UPDATE: Firefighters have got a handle on a structure fire in an apartment in the 3900 block of Pheasant Drive. The fire is believed to have started near the area of a water heater. Carson City firefighters were able to knock down the flames coming from the home.
Nearby residences were evacuated. The cause of the fire has not been determined. An ambulance was called to assist at least one person who was evacuated.

Care Flight to respond to motorcycle crash involving car at Fairview and Sweetwater

Care Flight was called and Carson City fire and ambulance responded this morning to a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Fairview and Sweetwater.
The crash was reported at around 8:45 a.m. Initial reports are the motorcyclist had serious injuries, was conscious but with labored breathing and that he could not feel his legs.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office responded to redirect traffic around the accident and to investigate.

Open burning in Carson City begins March 14 with permit

The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning March 14 to April 12. The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris.

In order to make this a safe endeavor for those involved, the Carson City Fire Department will require a burn permit with a valid permit number before burning will be allowed. Permits must be obtained no less than 24 hours prior to conducting an open burn.

Woman crashes into Carson City church, walks away without injuries

An elderly woman walked away without injuries Sunday after crashing her vehicle into a Carson City church. It was around 5 p.m when Carson City deputies and Carson City Fire Department responded to a call of a car crashing into a building off Clearview Drive.

Accident involving semi blocks traffic lanes of Carson City freeway at Fairview

UPDATE 230PM: Trooper Dave Gibson of the Nevada Highway Patrol reports just one vehicle, the semi, was involved in the accident on I-580 at Fairview. The driver was not injured and the road is now clear and open. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Carson City firefighters respond to structure fire at Long Street residence

Carson City Fire Department were called this afternoon to a structure fire at 1600 Long Street. Fire Department personnel arrived and called it a working incident with multiple units responding. It appears that no one was home at the time of the fire, or at least escaped when the fire started, according to firefighters on scene.
Neighbors said the home is occupied by one person.

Black smoke was seen coming from inside, alerting neighbors to call 911. Dispatch was alerted to the fire at 1:22 p.m. Firefighters made entry into the home and doused whatever flames were inside.

Search and Rescue operation at Kings Canyon; man says he's been stuck for three days

UPDATE 1:35PM: A man stuck up Kings Canyon has been rescued, according to Carson City dispatch. The man is said to be suffering from cold exposure and was treated by a Carson City fire and rescue ambulance team at the Nevada Department of Transportation substation at the top of Spooner Summit. He was taken to the hospital.

A search and rescue operation is underway this afternoon in the Kings Canyon area. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the man told dispatch that he has been stuck up in the canyon with a vehicle for three days and says he may have frostbite.

Carson City emergency crews called to traffic accident at Highway 50 near Spooner Summit

Carson City fire and ambulance responded Saturday night to a two-vehicle traffic accident in the upper Spooner area of Highway 50 near the junction of State Route 28. The accident was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Agencies respond Sunday afternoon to fire at Moundhouse industrial facility

Multiple fire agencies were called to a structure fire in Moundhouse this afternoon at an industrial facility at 16 Bruce Way. No injuries were reported. Firefighters contained the fire and began mop up early this evening, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page.

Care Flight called after vehicles crash into fence and tree at Airport Road and Sherman

UPDATE: Care Flight was called this afternoon to respond to a patient involved in a two-vehicle crash that happened at the intersection of Airport Road and Sherman in Carson City reported to dispatch at 3:48 p.m.

Carson City fire and ambulance responded to the crash in which the vehicles, a Dodge truck and a Subaru, collided, with the truck hitting a fence/wall and the Subaru a tree, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Daniel Gonzales. The Subaru ran a stop sign and the truck ran into the Subaru, said Gonzales.

One person was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Hazmat called to Minden warehouse for leaking acid

UPDATE 3:30 pm: The Quad County Hazmat Team made entry into the structure utilizing Class A hazmat suits. This incident has been determined to not be of environmental concern. No injuries were reported during this incident. The property will be turned over to the property manager and a contracted hazardous material clean-up crew at approximately 5 pm tonight.

Two motorcycles collide on Highway 50 East

UPDATE: Carson City fire and ambulance responded to a collision involving two motorcycles at the intersection of I-580 and William Street at Highway 50 East. The accident happened shortly before noon Saturday.
The accident was reportedly in the eastbound lane to get on to the freeway, according to dispatch. Traffic is stalled near the accident scene. At least one of the riders is injured and was taken by ground ambulance to the hospital.
Carson City sheriff's deputies are diverting traffic and Nevada Highway Patrol is responding.

Northbound Carson Street now open after crash at intersection of Silver Oak

UPDATED: Northbound Carson Street is now open following a crash tonight at the intersection of North Carson and Silver Oak that sent two to the hospital. The northbound lane was re-opened for travel at around 9 p.m., said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Carson City fire and ambulance responded to the two-vehicle head-on crash with injuries that happened at around 7:30 p.m.

Fire and rescue called to plane crash at Carson City Airport

UPDATE: The pilot and a passenger were evaluated by fire department personnel and released, said Carson City Fire Chief Robert Schreihans.

A responding Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy on scene reports the pilot is outside of the aircraft and appears OK, according to dispatch via scanner.

Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed after allegedly hitting victim with metal bat

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly breaking into a home and striking a man with a metal bat, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Jose Segovia was arrested at 1:52 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Saliman Road. He also faces charges of gross misdemeanor domestic battery, violation of a protective order, petit larceny and violation of alternative sentencing. He has been arrested four times in a year on domestic battery charges with one conviction.

Van plows through fence of Carson City dentist office

A man with a medical condition hit a truck and then drove his van through the fence of a Carson City dentist office in the 1400 block of North Carson Street between Park and Adams at around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday night.

Carson City fire and sheriff’s office personnel were called to the scene of the accident. Sheriff’s Sgt. Earl Mays said the adult male driver told officers he was having a medical condition when he struck a small pickup and then plowed through the fence, striking a tree and some signage around the building. Ambulance crews on scene were evaluating the man.

High winds kick up around Carson City and the Sierra as storm approaches

Carson City arrest log: Man released from jail, arrested on felony burglary charge

A 67-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday on felony suspicion of auto burglary after allegedly stealing a tool box from the back of a truck in the 400 block of Pratt Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Darrell Fisher also faces a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny after allegedly stealing a bicycle from a North Roop Street residence. He allegedly committed the crimes within an hour after being released from Carson City Jail, according to the arrest report.

Teen struck by vehicle on Highway 50 East near Carson City casino

UPDATE: Carson City emergency personnel on scene report the 14-year-old girl received minor abrasions to her elbows and will not require hospitalization. One vehicle was involved in the accident that happened in the crosswalk, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. The driver was cited.

Care Flight called after teen injured in accident at William and Saliman

UPDATE: The juvenile driver of a vehicle that struck and injured a teenager on a bicycle going across William Street was cited for causing the accident, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

The accident isn’t related to the traffic diversions coming off of Saliman onto William Street. The driver appeared to not be paying attention as the teen bicyclist was going across the street with a right-of-way and the teen motorist striking him when making a left hand turn at the flashing yellow arrow light, said Sloan. The bicyclist was struck in the No. 1 lane and there wasn’t a blind spot.

“It was driver inattention causing the accident,” he said.

The condition of the injured teen is unknown. He was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno with a laceration to the head. The collision caused the teen on the bicycle to go into the windshield of the vehicle, said Sloan.

Emergency crews called to vehicle crash at Carson and Spooner junction

Carson City fire and ambulance responded late Friday morning to a two-vehicle accident in the northbound lane of Carson Street at Spooner Junction.
The accident, reported shortly after 11 a.m., involves a Jeep Cherokee and a sedan, possibly a Subaru. At least one person was reported to be injured and taken by ground ambulance for non life-threatening injuries.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City Sheriff's Office were called to the scene for traffic control. More information will be added as it becomes available. Check back for updates.

Two vehicle crash at Fifth Street bridge causes traffic delays

UPDATE: Fifth Street at the bridge was reopened at around 8:40 p.m. for traffic in both directions, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Carson City fire and rescue were called Thursday night to a two-vehicle crash on the Fifth Street bridge. There were no serious injuries reported but the crash did cause traffic delays at the bridge, which was temporarily closed.

Outgoing Carson City fire chief honored by Carson City supervisors

Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi was honored this morning by the Carson City Board of Supervisors for 31 years of service. Giomi announced his retirement in December and this week it was announced that Battalion Chief Robert S. Schreihans will replace Giomi.

“You’ve been a part of this community so many years keeping us safe. I particularly remember when we had the Waterfall Fire. It could have been tremendously damaging, and it was, but it could have been worse," said Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.

Robert Schreihans named Carson City’s new fire chief

Carson City has a new fire chief. Battalion Chief Robert S. Schreihans has been picked to lead the fire squad for the capital city of Nevada. The announcement was made by the city manager late Tuesday.

Schreihans replaces Stacey Giomi who announced in December that he was retiring, after 31 years of being with the Carson City Fire Department.

Structure fire causes significant damage to home south of Carson City in Douglas County

A north Douglas County home was destroyed after a structure fire Saturday night. East Fork Fire and Paramedic District along with the help of Carson City Fire Department responded to the fire in the 3600 block of Shawnee Drive off of Jacks Valley Road.

As units arrived, the structure was approximately 80 percent involved in fire. Sixteen East Fork Fire units responded to this fire in addition to units from the Carson City Fire Department, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Carson City firefighters called to structure fire on north Division

UPDATE 9:19PM: One man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene of a house fire Monday night in the 1500 block of North Division. Two dogs were inside the home when the fire started. One dog escaped and another suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by firefighters, said Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.

The dog was not in good shape when firefighters found him but emergency crews were able to help the dog breathe, said Giomi. The dog is now recovering under the supervision of animal services and should survive.
