Truck driver seen gambling confesses phony armed robbery story to Carson City authorities

A truck driver who was seen gambling on Monday at a Carson City supermarket, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of falsely reporting a crime after he told police he was robbed of $1,300 at gunpoint by two black men.

The Phoenix, Ariz., man was arrested early this morning. His bail was set at $632. According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy arrest report, officers were dispatched Monday night to the 3000 block of North Carson street for a reported armed robbery at JM Furniture.

Carson City mom concerned about car theft uses baby monitor to track thief, son arrested

A Carson City woman who was concerned about car burglaries in her neighborhood used a baby monitor device to track down the thief, only to learn that it was her own son who was allegedly stealing from a vehicle.

According to Capt. Clay Wall of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, there had been a spike in vehicle burglaries during the month of July and investigators learned there were similar patterns being used in the thefts.

Carson City Silver Dollar Car Classic 2010 winners

Here are the 2010 winners of the Carson City Silver Dollar Car Classic held this weekend at Mills Park. The event brought hundreds of car enthusiasts to Carson City for the weekend before many moved on to Reno for the Hot August Nights celebration.

Carson City Silver Dollar Car Classic continues through Sunday

Hundreds of car enthusiasts from Nevada and California made their way to Mills Park in Carson City today for the annual Carson City Silver Dollar Car Classic.
The car show, which continues through Sunday, is among the region's biggest draws, with more than 300 restored, tricked-out, and souped-up cars and trucks on display.
Saturday's ideal weather conditions and the tree coverage of Mills Park made it a great event for the entire family, organizers said.

Two Care Flight choppers summoned to Carson City Airport after a reported accident

Two Care Flight helicopters were summoned to the Carson City Airport this afternoon on two separate medical events including a car accident involving a child.

The car accident in the Northgate Lane area of Carson City was reported at 1:37 this afternoon. In a separate call, at 1:38, an air ambulance was needed for an overdose patient, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Reports are that a 10-year-old girl was injured in the car accident, Furlong said. The extent of the child's injuries are unknown, Furlong added.

Business growth picks up on South Carson

We had heard rumors of recent activity at the never-opened Sportsman's Warehouse store in the Southgate Center on South Carson Street.

And now, it looks like there will be a new Big Lots store moving in this fall.

While a discount closeout store isn't exactly the kind of high-end (or medium-end) store residents might have been hoping for, it's better than an empty storefront.

Additional charges may be filed in Carson City burglary crime ring

More charges could soon be filed against a Carson City man believed to be involved in a burglary ring that spans over multiple Northern Nevada counties.
Bryan Allen Gaudette, 24, faces five additional felony counts of burglary and is being held in the Carson City Jail on $25,000 bond.
He is currently in custody for other items already recovered in the same case, authorities report.

Carson City authorities make drug-related arrests

A Carson City woman faces multiple drug charges after being stopped on a traffic warrant.
Geraldine May Guthrie-Dumas, 50, was booked on suspicion of felony possession of a methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance charges a well as allegedly holding prescription pills without a prescription and drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $9,581.

Dozens of burglary victims look for stolen goods at Carson City viewing

Victims by the dozens arrived at the Carson City Sheriff's Office this morning hoping to find what was stolen from them after authorities cracked a burglary ring earlier this month that is believed to have started a year ago.

Sifting through hundreds of items such as iPods, laptops, CDs, DVDs, guns, tools and guitars, many of the victims said they were hopeful they could place positive identifications on what had been taken from them.

Flash flood warning issued for Carson City; power line snaps

A flash flood warning issued for Carson City has expired but continues through 6:15 p.m. in central Douglas County, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Rain and heavy winds have punched the region, with reports of power outages in east and west Carson City.

In addition, the westbound lane of Highway 50 going up to Spooner Summit is closed, with Nevada Highway Patrol diverting traffic. No word yet on the cause for the closure.

A power line snapped and a transformer is down in the area of Spear and Nevada streets near Division. Carson City fire crews and the Carson City Sheriff's Office closed portions of traffic in the area. The downed power lines did not arc and were not live on the ground, according to fire personnel on the scene.

Carson City authorities look for suspects involved in road rage incident

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for possibly two vehicles in a road rage dispute that happened earlier tonight in the area of Highway 395 and Fairview on-ramp.
Sheriff Ken Furlong said one of the vehicles has been stopped.
Initial feedback from those who reported the incident at around 7 tonight said that at least one person was heavily bleeding because of the dispute. Those reports, however, cannot be confirmed because the alleged person hasn't yet been found, Furlong said.

Silver Dollar Cruise Night

Thursday night the Carson Mall was filled with people, cars, good food and rock & roll music for the Silver Dollar Cruise Night. It was a blast. The event ran from 6 pm to 8 pm. There was no fee for spectators. Carson City School District president 'amazed' marijuana charge dropped against principal

At least one Carson City School District official is troubled by the outcome of Friday's misdemeanor driving under the influence guilty plea by Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo.
School board trustee president Norm Scoggin said he's "amazed" that a misdemeanor charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana was dropped by the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.

Nevada Law Enforcement Agencies To Install New Vehicle Technology To Save Money – Cut Air Pollution

CARSON CITY – New technology aimed both at cutting unnecessary vehicle emissions and saving tax dollars will soon be installed in the fleets of four Nevada law enforcement agencies using federal stimulus funds.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the City of Henderson Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are purchasing 175 of the “idle reduction� units for $700,000.

Man arrested after allegedly throwing an elbow into a Carson City deputy's head

A 28-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a police officer, and a misdemeanor resisting charge after he allegedly elbowed an officer in the head on Sunday morning outside of a bar.
Carlos Edwards Lopez was taken into custody following the alleged assault. His bail has been set at $4,612. Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North Carson Street at about 2 a.m. after there was a report of a fight in progress, according to the arrest report.

Carson City woman hit by car, flown to Renown Medical Center

A Carson City woman was hit by a car tonight in the 1500 block of 5th Street and was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
The woman was transported from the accident scene to Carson High School where Care Flight picked her up. Her condition appeared to be serious. The accident was reported at 7:22 p.m. Care Flight arrived within minutes after being requested by medics on-scene.

Man in custody following Sacramento area kidnapping that led to Amber Alert

A man suspected of kidnapping his girlfriend at gunpoint this morning in Sacramento County has been taken into custody this afternoon in Lassen County near Susanville at Honey Lake, KCRA TV Sacramento reports. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the 3-year-old daughter of a man suspected of abducting his 18-year-old girlfriend at gunpoint this morning from a Carmichael apartment.
