An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday evening at 6:10 p.m. in the 900 block of East Musser Street for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Carson City Sheriff's Office detectives served a felony warrant Saturday morning at 8:10 a.m. on 44 year-old Carson City resident Barrak Lauderbaugh at his residence in the 3700 block of Woodside Drive, according to the report by a Carson City Sheriff's detective.

With flooding likely in parts of northern Nevada this weekend, residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with what to do before, during and after a flood. The best local resource for information on flooding is the Nevada Floods website. Residents are encouraged to visit the website now, but here is some basic information.

There has been a lot of talk this week about the 1997 flood. Twenty years ago, on New Year’s Eve Day, 1996, my Dad and I went goose hunting. We had set out our decoys and had a good early morning hunt, however, it started raining so we packed everything up, leaving the bags of decoys in a dry irrigation ditch.

I know it's hard to think about summer whilst scraping ice off your windshield, but the Community Discount Registration Event for Epic Rides at the Firkin and Fox will have you blissfully dreaming of bike rides in June. Capital City Arts Initiative has a display at the court house, inside the Sierra Room at the Community Center, and inside the BRIC building by City Hall. Check out the exhibit at the Nevada Arts Council and the Nevada Artist Association’s featured artist inside the Carson Visitor Center. 75 years ago, the USS Nevada was one of the battleships trapped when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. She was the only battleship to get underway during the attack, and according to Naval historian Kermit (Kit) H. Bonner the ship was "the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal and depressing morning" for the United States. Today we remember those lost in that attack, and remember the history behind the battleship that is our battle born namesake. A special exhibit of USS Nevada artifacts, and a lecture on her history are free for all at the State Museum at 1 p.m.

Yesterday, I checked into an AirBnb in downtown El Paso. My lovely friends in San Diego had put me up the night before. We watched a movie called Sicario, a flick about Mexican drug cartels. Needless to say, the movie is partially set in Juarez, the border town right next to El Paso. It was the perfect set up to a nice waterfall of assumption.

A 33-year-old Markleeville, Calif., man was arrested Saturday on felony drug charges including trafficking after methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin were found along with $200 in counterfeit bills, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
