If I seem a little excited about a little bit of sunshine, its because I am, especially after this very long, gray, wet winter. Today we celebrate the Arts in Nevada at the Legislature and salute the painters, potters, makers, sculptors, singers, dancers, actors, writers, poets, and musicians that capture all that is Nevada in their work.

An in-depth presentation of the origin, operations and economics of giant land based gold dredges from the turn of the 20th century to their decline mid-century, and limited operations in the 1980-1990s.
Glenn Lucky’s familiar, famous tricycle to debut at Carson City's Nevada State Museum

Glenn Lucky wanted to raise awareness and funding for cerebral palsy research, a condition that has challenged him all his life, but never held him down. The vehicle he used to make his incredible journey debuts at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, just in time to celebrate the Epic Ride bicycle event through Northern Nevada.

Volunteers are needed now and invited to join the free event that includes lectures, enrichment activities and all materials. Volunteers train to give tours of Nevada State Museum and the State Capitol for school-aged children and adults.

Historic Coin Press No. 1 will operate both days from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 3:30 p.m. The press will mint silver .999 fine medallions for sale to the public.

Tour guide training begins at the museum Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m.
No experience is necessary but volunteers are asked to be available at least four hours per month and bring curiosity and enthusiasm for Nevada’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

C-SPAN programs featuring Carson City to air this weekend

In addition to having feature stories sprinkled in throughout the weekend on the respective networks, both American History TV and Book TV, there will be a block of programming where all of the respective Carson City pieces for their networks will air, said C-SPAN spokeswoman Laura Finch.
Last chance to see famous Fey Collection of Slot Machines May 1 at Nevada State Museum

While the slots are off exhibit for two years, staff will conserve the collection and plan for a traveling exhibit that could go on tour.

Underground mine history lecture

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the opening of the exhibit on Nevada Day, Oct 31, 1950. You will have the opportunity to see and explore through pictures, one of the finest mine replicas in the world. The program will be at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. History of the Carson City Mint

The Carson City Mint produced close to $50 million in both gold and silver coins, stamped with the famous CC mint mark. Bob Nylen will also discuss the role women workers played at the mint, as well as show images of the unique and rare coins produced right here in our own hometown.
