Enjoy Saturday downtown with the Third and Curry Farmers Market, the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, and a free concert at the Brewery Arts Center. Mills Park features the return of the RSVP Carnival with rides, food, booths, games, and more.

Welcome to July, Carson City. How do you want to start out the month? For some laughs, head to Carson Comedy in the Nugget Casino or Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center. Take the kids to Carson Hot Springs: free admission for those under 18 today. Break a leg, Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Aladdin Jr. opens tonight at the Carson City Community Center. Mills Park is home to a carnival for the long weekend, so grab yourself a funnel cake or a spin on the Ferris Wheel tonight until 10 p.m.

It's Friday, Carson City. Epic Rides descends on our valley, and I must say, it is one epic event. Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, has free farmers market coupons for Carson City low-income seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Whoo-hoo Wednesday. June First brings the inaugural Wednesday Evening Farmers Market to downtown. Look for it at Third Street after 4 p.m. The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is at the Community Center: the Sheriff’s Office vs. the Fire Department. Help Comma Coffee welcome a new artist to their Backseat Gallery this evening: every first Wednesday you can a attend their artist reception. Sing a song for summer at Crossroads: J and M Productions hosts karaoke tonight.

A few days left of school, a few days left of May: summer is knocking on the door and insisting to be let in. If only it would bring some sunshine with it, we’d be set. Get the weekend started with a good time downtown: Stereo Galaxy at Westside Pour House, comedy at the Nugget, and a DJ at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Party 80s style at Whiskey Tavern’s karaoke party. Minden kicks off a summer of Concerts in the Park tonight with a tribute to the Beatles.

It’s a big day for the stage in Carson City. Under the lights of the Performance Hall at the Brewery Art Center, the four primary candidates for Carson City Mayor and for State Assembly District 40 will participate in a forum hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. Spring fever is upon many of us, probably worst of all among the school kids. Let the Carson High School bands and theater program show off their stuff one last time before the end of the year; you'll find them at the Community Center at 7 p.m. It's also the time of year that sees more walkers and bicyclists on our sidewalks and roadways. Join Muscle Powered this evening as they participate in the 13th Annual Ride of Silence to remember those who have been hurt or killed while riding on public streets.

If you were looking for a lazy day, today might not be it. Carson City BMX welcomes moms to the track today; their Mother’s Day race was postponed due to the wet weather. Virginia City still has plenty of chili on the menu, in addition to their annual Fun with the Runs 5K. Gardeners will want to head to Douglas High School for the Future Farmers of America plant sale. Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. There’s nothing unlucky about this Friday the Thirteenth. Spring is in full bloom, the sun is shining, and the weekend is hours away. Much love to the Mothers in our valley, and those that we love like Mothers. Treat that special lady to a day at the Carson Hot Springs. She gets to ride free with a child at the RSVP Spring Carnival. Travel to Virginia City and back on the historic Virginia and Truckee Steam Train. Brunch, bingo, and BMX racing are just a few of the other things that Sunday has to offer.

I am not even going to attempt guessing what weather we have in store. The west side of the Sierras are notoriously unpredictable. You are much better off betting on the Kentucky Derby; and the Firkin and Fox is just the place to cheer on your favorite horse.

Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

We know better than trying to predict springtime weather in the Sierra foothills. A new wave of showers is expected Monday, but it could show up whenever it likes. Rain or shine, Earth Day in Reno’s Idlewild Park is always fun and informative. See Marlon Brando on the big screen as Galaxy Theater offers two showings of ‘On the Waterfront.’ The Carson City Symphony welcomes guest soloist, Albert Lee, to the stage during today’s Spring Fling Concert.

Into every life a little rain must fall, and we just got plenty. The tulips and lilac blooming around town will be pleased. Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Hit the Carson Mall for Cowgirls and Lipstick or learn about rare coins at the Nevada State Museum. Meet author Joe Crowley at Browsers' Corner Book Store or read to therapy dogs at the Carson City Library. Thank goodness we are only two months from the first day of summer; spring is such an unpredictable season. Blustery today, rainy tomorrow, the threat of some snow in a few days. Take advantage of a nice day whenever it appears. Bike night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar is one way to do that.

The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. April showers are coming, but that just means brighter blooms. After this morning, there will be pinwheels sprouting from the lawn in front of the Legislature, and you are welcome to help in the planting. TEDxCarsonCity makes it's debut today: stream it online here if you weren't able to get tickets. Fathers and daughters are in for a treat at the Once Upon a Time Enchanted Ball at Carson High.

The Brewery Arts Center has Celtic duo Men of Worth playing in the Black Box Theater, folk singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill is at Living the Good Life, you'll find the Whitehats performing at the West Side Pour House, and Sassafras has a night of rock with Year of the Fist and Double Header. St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and the celebrations have begun. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada has crafts and Irish dancers. Enjoy some rhythm and blues with Catfish Carl at Bella Fiore or explore your inner artist at Mona Lisa and Wine. A Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint favorite, Groove Session, is back for another fun show.

Let someone else take care of Sunday breakfast. The Elks Club’s monthly pancake breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m., but they’ll start serving bloody marys at 7 a.m. if you need some hair of the dog. Go for a strike at Carson Lanes with their Breakfast and Bowl special. The Capital City Community Band welcomes area elementary school choirs onstage during today’s free concert, A Salute to Young Musicians, at the Community Center.

Got kids? The Boys and Girls Club is where you want to be today for the Second Annual Early Childhood Expo. Curious George and Clifford the big red dog can’t wait to say hello.
