The Reno Jazz Orchestra will present a free big band music and dance production in partnership with Artown 2023 on July 29 at the J Resort in Reno, Nevada. During the two-hour performance of “Hot House, One Night at the Savoy,” the Reno Jazz Orchestra will capture the character of nightclubbing in the 1930s.

Monday, July 25, host Brother Dan Palmer welcomes troubadour Alex “Muddy” Smith for an afternoon of music and chat, at the Bank Saloon in Carson City. Smith has entertained Northern Nevada audiences for many years, in addition to appearances throughout the western US.

Mile High Jazz Band presents November Jazz, a program of big band music, on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street. General admission is $5 at the door; free for age 18 and under.

In honor of veterans, the band will play "Bugle Call Rag," "American Patrol," and "In the Mood." To reflect the change of season, they will perform "The Heat's On," "Early Autumn," and, with band vocalist Cindee LeVal, "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening." LeVal will be featured in several selections.

Mile High Jazz Band celebrates Nevada Arts Day at Comma Coffee, across the street from the State Legislature, with a program of big-band jazz featuring vocalist Sheryl Adams. The performance will be outdoors in the courtyard, weather permitting.
