Happy Mother’s Day, Carson City! Several family friendly events are occurring around town this weekend. Take a ride on the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum or the Ferris Wheel at RSVP’s Spring Fair and Carnival. A Harmonica and Strings Concert at Empire Elementary School showcases what some of our talented students can do. Get up early and head over to the Carson City Airport if your youngster has any interest in planes: Young Eagles flights are happening today if the weather permits.

Saturday, May 2, the festivities begin at 1 p.m. Grab a wine glass, map, and hand stamp at the Carson Nugget, Cactus Jack’s, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Touched by an Angel, or Bella Fiore. You have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins.

It’s a good weekend to be a kid: the Kerak Shrine Circus is in town! Well, it’s in Reno, but that isn’t too far of a drive for elephants, clowns, and cotton candy. Also in Reno, but intended for a slightly older audience, is the Lady Luck Tattoo and Art Expo, coincidentally held at Circus Circus.

For the outdoorsy-types you can join in the March to End Senior Hunger 5K in Dayton; the 5K Glow Run benefitting the Western Nevada College Softball Team; or join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park for a guided hike.

The Downtown Business Association’s Wine Walk, Artsy Fartsy’s Annual Jewelry Sale, Just Brew It’s Annual Thirsty Boy Home Brew Competition, and Family Fun Day at the Nevada State Museum are all hoping to lure you out of your home. Leave your ice skates at home though, the Arlington Square ice rink has closed for the season.

Jason Brown spent a recent afternoon shopping at Rocking and Rolling in downtown Carson City. He bought an old-spoon necklace and some blue-lace agate and smoky quartz for his children’s rock collection. “She has all the cool ones, and she polishes them herself,” he said.

Artsy Fartsy Art Galleries third anniversary party to benefit American Cancer Society

Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery LLC as we celebrate our 3rd year in business with a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society for prostate cancer research.

More than 50 northern Nevada artists will take part in this one-of-a-kind chair show, entitled "Sit On This."

A portion of all chair sales will go directly to The American Cancer Society. A raffle table will be available with all proceeds to benefit prostate cancer research. Carson City Confections will be on hand with their amazing cupcakes. Many surprises throughout the day.

Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts third Northern Nevada Youth Art Show on Saturday

Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery in Carson City will host its third Northern Nevada Youth Art Show Saturday, March 15 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Gallery owner Jeff Pace has become the local “go to” guy for many artists of all ages. He has hosted hundreds of Nevada artists over the years and is now seeing artists as young as seven come in to his gallery with their parents to seek his opinion, advice and mentorship on their budding talent.

A Walk Down the Fall Art Walk Lane

At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a group of well bundled people met in downtown Carson City for the Fall Art Walk. If you missed the walk or forgot to take notes, here is a brief recap.

1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.

2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.

An evening to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Wednesday, Feb. 22, beginning at 6 p.m. at Café at Adele’s.
The event is limited to 80 attendees. Each will receive a glass of wine and tastings from the three new menus offered by Charlie Abowd, chef and owner of the establishment.
“We’re showcasing selections from the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus,” said Karen Abowd, project president. “This is an opportunity for the community to see the changes we’ve made at Café at Adele’s, to enjoy an evening of fantastic food and support the work of The Greenhouse Project.”

Saturday Summer Social — The Last One of The Season

Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and Rocking and Rolling are offering the last Saturday Summer Social of the season — bring the kids and have a good time all for free.
This week we will be offering massages by Theresa Tuchy of Carson Hot Springs Resort, local musician Jay-Paul Malikowski, Kurt the balloon man, rock painting, and arrow head wrapping for the kids in your life. Light appetizers will be served.

Artsy farty art gallery is proud to present nude3.

Three unique artist and one nude female model, what is each artist's interpritation of the same thing.
We will offer a wine tasting paired with chocolates and light appetizers will be served while jay-paul plays the giutar in the garden.

A raffle will be available with all the proceeds to benefit "the esperanza foundation" a non-profit organization focusing on domestic violence.
