The annual Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is quickly approaching and ticket sales are suspended during spring break, so you’ll want to grab them today or tomorrow. If you’ve ever wondered ‘Why Should I Like Shakespeare? then the workshop this evening at the Carson Library is for you.

Grand show of support for Carson City's MAC
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Wed, 12/30/2015 - 5:33pmDozens gathered Wednesday afternoon in support of the grand opening Carson City’s long-awaited Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1870 Russell Way.
The MAC, as it has come to be known, is a project twenty years in the making. It began in 1996 as one of a host of improvement projects that the municipality of Carson City hoped to fund from the passing of Question 18, known as the “Quality of Life” ballot measure.

Ghost walk brings Carson City history to life
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/18/2015 - 6:00amMary Bennett first went on the Carson City Ghost Walk as a reporter for the local radio station 23 years ago. With a theater background and storytelling instincts, she was immediately drawn to the historic production.
“I loved it so much,” she recalled. Bennett joined the cast right away, becoming one of the characters from Carson City’s history to give a tour of the city as it was in its early days. This year, the Carson City Ghost Walk and Ghost Walking Tours kicks off May 23 with six tours to follow throughout summer and fall.
New UNR professor specializes in autonomous cars, robotics and intelligent systems

He comes to Nevada by way of a Visiting Fellowship at the Center for Information Technology Policy at Princeton and Freie University Berlin, Germany where he has been a professor of artificial intelligence and robotics.
Man-Made Wonders featured in Carson City lecture Friday at the Plaza Hotel

It arrives at the Plaza Hotel and Event Center in Carson City on Friday, Jan. 9. This free lecture is filled with many beautiful images of amazing works of architecture found around the globe.
The Plaza Hotel and Event Center is located at 801 S. Carson St. Carson City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the lecture begins at 7 p.m.
Carson City Public Works picks design firm for downtown Carson Street project
Submitted by editor on Wed, 01/07/2015 - 5:34pmCarson City Public Works Director Darren Schulz announced Wednesday that after reviewing proposals and finalist presentations, a city review and selection committee has selected Lumos & Associates to lead the Downtown Carson Street Urban Design Project.
The committee will enter into contract negotiations for a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors will then approve, disapprove or modify the contract. The contract is anticipated to begin February 5, 2015.

Nordyke Ranch House in Lyon County listed in State Register of Historic Places

Carson City scavenger hunt celebrates historic Nevada preservation and archaeology

To kick off the celebration, there will be a monthlong Historic Resources Commission Scavenger Hunt in Carson City and other events around northern Nevada.
Organizations and agencies have maintained a long tradition to promote history and spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the state, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.
Federal court strikes down Sierra Club lawsuit, upholds Lake Tahoe Regional Plan
Submitted by editor on Mon, 04/07/2014 - 3:26pmA federal court Monday ruled in favor of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, affirming an update to the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan that took years to craft, according to the agency.
The lawsuit was filed by the Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore in February 2013 following nearly a decade of public input to update the plan originally adopted in 1987.
Erik Holland is painting in Carson City for his November show

Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. adjacent to the Caucus Deli, the LXS space displays Alberti’s series “Time Frame” March 18 through April 5. Managed by the Artist Services Program of the Nevada Arts Council, the Legislative eXhibition Series has provided a spotlight on the Silver State's breadth of contemporary and folk artists during the biennial session since 1985.
V&T McKeen Motor Car designated as National Historic Landmark

Calling the McKeen Motor Car #70, Virginia & Truckee Railway Motor Car #22, "the best surviving example of the first commercially viable application of internal combustion power in a self-propelled railroad car" the designation possess exceptional value and quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States, Salazar said.
Contemporary painting featured at Carson City Library on Wednesday
