Carson City Board of Supervisors approved $75,500 in funding for Curry Street farmer's market and related events, with some heated debate over lack of transparency from the Office of Business Development. The board also approved the $3.7 million purchase of the 368 acre Jarrad Ranch on Carson River Road. Please see the live blog below for more information.

CARSON CITY – A Las Vegas attorney running for attorney general as a Republican against Democrat incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto, and who called for a State Bar investigation into her release of a letter to the press about a potential legal challenge to the federal health care law, is now himself the subject of a bar inquiry.
Attorney Jacob Hafter called the inquiry ridiculous.
“It just shows the type of protection these incumbents have,” he said.

Western States Motor Officers Association, in conjunction with Carson City Harley Davidson, present the second annual Show and Shine fundraiser for Austin's house, April 17 at Carson City Harley Davidson.

Cost is $20 per car to show.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence, in conjunction with other agencies, will be placing pinwheels on the legislative lawn on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 1:00 pm . This is part of Prevent Child Abuse Nevada’s statewide, “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign. The Pinwheels will remain in place for the following week.

Squaw Valley USA reports the longest and most complete season in Lake Tahoe
After receiving seven feet of fresh snow in seven days, Squaw Valley is once again offering the longest and most complete ski season in Lake Tahoe with plans to stay open for skiing and riding through May 9, 2010. Squaw Valley’s annual snowfall of 450 inches and mountain topography featuring acres upon acres of upper elevation North-facing terrain are among the natural attributes that enable the resort to remain open through the middle of May each ski season.

The 3rd annual "Carson City Clean Up" sponsered by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce took place on Saturday April 10th. There was a good turn out of volunteers for the annual event, JC Pennys and the Casino Fandago being were well represeted. Rob Joiner, candidate for City Supervisor in Ward 1, was also on hand with a few of his crew trying to make the highway 50 interchange a little less of an eye sore.
The Chamber's Executive Director, Ronni Hannaman, welcomed everyone who attended and had the Chamber supply coffee, water, safety vests and hats.

A proposal by Regent Mark Alden for cutting the pay of university employees to deal with the education budget cuts mandated by the legislature will be discussed during the April 16 meeting of the Board of Regents.

April 16 through April 18, 2010, Squaw Valley is hosting the first ever nation-wide Professional Ski Patrol Olympics. Competitions ranging from simulated bomb throws to a GS race down some of Squaw Valley’s most difficult terrain will take place by the Headwall chairlift on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18.
Spectators and patrollers alike can watch the head-to-head battles from theCornice II snow lounge featuring barbequed food and PBR for sale.
Patrollers from all over the country and Canada will be competing for glory and a $1,500 cash purse and prizes compliments of Helly Hansen.

Important decisions lie ahead with voters in the upcoming elections for several Carson City elected offices.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold two primary candidates forums April 12 and April 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street. The event is free and open to the public. WNC Professor Robert Morin will serve as moderator and ask each candidate a series of three questions. The audience will have the opportunity to weigh in.

The Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) is making plans for the fourth annual Hike for Health fundraiser for the Genoa Foothill Trail System project.

The original “run what ya brung” race is an uphill answer to the famous ‘Chinese Downhill’ of the 70s. Starting from the bottom of KT-22, the course climbs 2,000 vertical feet over 3.2 miles to the finish at High Camp, at 8,200 feet.
It's enough to take your breath away just thinking about it.
The Billy Dutton Uphill race is open to Nordic skiers, snowshoers, runners and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.

The state Supreme Court has refused to move up a court date on a case to handle mining's attempt to scuttle a voter petition drive to raise its taxes.

In so doing, the court rejected a request from the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) to move up the dates for filing briefs so it doesn't have a chilling effect on the collection of voter signatures.

The Buddy Holly Sock Hop upcoming at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson Ceity will bring out the Big Bopper or Peggy Sue in you The fundraising event is set for Saturday evening, April 10, featuring the music of 1950s legend Buddy Holly and contemporaries of his rock ‘n roll era.

Bob Reid and the Rave-Ons will provide live music in the Buddy Holly tradition, including such mega-hits as Rave On, That’ll Be the Day and Peggy Sue. CARSON CITY — An Arizona man is due in court April 7 and faces multiple felony charges after allegedly making terrorist threats to citizens and public officials in Nevada, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety – Investigation Division obtained an arrest warrant on March 9 for Douglas Hoffman, 63.

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Highway Users Coalition has announced its support for moving forward with a study on Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) as a potential alternative to the current gas tax paid by motorists at the pump to fund road improvements and maintenance.
According to those involved in the study, the consequences of inaction could include the deterioration of roads and highways, increased vehicle wear and tear, increased congestion and accidents and longer commute times.

Christy Works, a 2008 Carson High graduate now running as a sophomore for the University of Nevada women's track and field team, set a personal record for 800 meters and placed fifth at the Cal-Nevada Championships on Sunday in Westwood, Calif.

High winds forced postponement of the Carson High boys golf team's Sierra League tournament at Thunder Canyon Golf Course on Monday.
The tournament has been rescheduled for next Monday at Thunder Canyon, starting at noon. Another tournament is on the schedule for Tuesday, April 6, in Fallon.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly networking mixer at VCM Collision Center on Wednesday, April 21, beginning at 5:00 p.m. VCM Collision Center is located at 4251 US Highway 50 East in Carson City.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will perform a concert, "Spirit of Exploration" at the Carson City Community Center on Saturday, April 24, beginning at 4 p.m. The concert features soloist Gail Williams in Horn Concerto No. 1 by Richard Strauss.
