The countdown to the weekend begins as we head into midweek, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 with daytime highs in the low 90s and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Tuesday that Jim Peckham, Executive Director of Friends in Service Helping since 2009, has been named as the 2019 Pioneer of the Year. NNDA’s Pioneer of the Year award honors an individual who both personally and professionally supports and has had a significant impact on the economic development and growth of the region.

Carson City based RICE Hydro, Inc. continues its long tradition of supporting STEM education throughout North America. Recently, the company donated one of their MTP-15 Manual Hand Operated Hydrostatic test pumps to Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

We're looking at plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and an extraordinary musical lineup today at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City for the 11th annual Concert Under the Stars benefit for The Greenhouse Project. Carson City residents Don and Elaine Quilici returned recently from vacationing in Alaska, where they were treated to an airplane ride of a lifetime, touring Denali, the highest point in North America at 20,320 feet and then landing the tour aircraft on Ruth Glacier, which is 3,000 feet thick.

Visitors and residents of Carson City were treated Thursday morning to patriotic music and a public reading of the Declaration of Independence by the Sons of the American Revolution, Battle Born Patriots Chapter, at the Nevada State Museum.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Waters Supplies Association (TWSA) are in the process of distributing an initial run of 250 cigarette butt collection canisters at key locations around Lake Tahoe. The aim of the Tahoe Cigarette Disposal Program is to reduce toxic chemicals from littered cigarette butts from leaching into the environment, to protect wildlife, and to reduce litter on Lake Tahoe’s shoreline and vicinity.
