Plans for vessels that would ferry up to 150 local commuters as well as visitors on Lake Tahoe with marina stops on the north and south shores are available for public comment through Jan. 3, 2014.

Carson City Symphony's Holiday Treat concert celebrates 30 years Dec. 15

It's a Holiday Treat for all seasonal and holiday music in many styles. The Carson City Symphony presents the 30th annual Holiday Treat concert on Sunday, December 15, 4:00 p.m., at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street.

The Symphony will be joined on the program by the Carson City Symphony Chorus, and Norma Conway's Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert entertainment begins at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby.

Federal drought disaster loans available to Northern Nevada small businesses

The drought experienced this spring and summer has prompted the U.S. Small Business Administration to offer low-interest federal disaster loans to small, non-farm businesses in Carson City, Lyon County as well as Storey and Washoe counties.

These loans that must be applied for would offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by the drought experienced from May 20 to July 14, 2013, said Alfred E. Judd, director of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center ‑ West.

Pilot escapes injury after plane lands on its belly at Minden Tahoe Airport

A 77-year-old man escaped injury Tuesday after the small plane he was piloting landed on its belly at the Minden Tahoe Airport, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports.

East Fork Fire and Paramedics along with the Douglas County deputies responded at to the airport 12:28 pm after the Piper Camanche 400 came into land at the airport.

The owner and pilot Alfred Asti, the sole occupant, stated his approach was high and as the plane came into contact with the ground, the plane bounced. It is believed Asti is from Carson City.

The Sagebrushers: Comstock-era writers took their booze and news to the limit

Alfred Doten had one of the longest tenures of any Sagebrusher in the history of the Comstock. His Nevada career began at Como in 1863, and ended 40 years later with his death in Carson City in 1903.  Today Doten is remembered for the journals he wrote spanning 54 years documenting his career and personal experiences. Seventy years after his death, the University of Nevada Press published a massive three volume set, weighing a hefty 14 1/2 pounds, titled: “The Journals of Alfred Doten 1849-1903.”

Fernley 95A Speedway opened its 2012 season on Saturday, April 14 with a full racing program on the 3/8 mile clay oval. The track is under new management headed up by Vuki Wilson and Matt Ramthun with the slogan “A Racers’ Track Run by Racers”. Six racing divisions were on hand, plus a contingent of Box Stock Outlaw Karts driven by kids 5-10 years old.
