Two Care Flight choppers summoned to Carson City Airport after a reported accident

Two Care Flight helicopters were summoned to the Carson City Airport this afternoon on two separate medical events including a car accident involving a child.

The car accident in the Northgate Lane area of Carson City was reported at 1:37 this afternoon. In a separate call, at 1:38, an air ambulance was needed for an overdose patient, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Reports are that a 10-year-old girl was injured in the car accident, Furlong said. The extent of the child's injuries are unknown, Furlong added.

Carson City authorities arrest four on drug charges, two for felony heroin possession

Carson City authorities have arrested four people on multiple drug charges, including two arrests for alleged felony heroin possession.
Authorities assigned to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team had gleaned information on Thursday that several alleged known heroin users were hiding at a home in the 2800 block of Airport Road in Carson City.

Here is the Carson City area road construction report for Monday, July 26 through Sunday, Aug. 1. Expect some minor delays along the way.

As a result of the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation freeway project, the following closures will be in place:
— Valley View Drive will be permanently closed between Edmonds Drive and Line Drive beginning Monday, July 26.
— Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.

 The Roop Street widening project will continue and is expected to be completed by the end of of the year. The following impacts are expected for the Carson City area in the coming week:

— Roop Street is closed to through traffic from William Street to Robinson Street.  This closure is expected to last through early September, but business access will be provided.

Carson City authorities arrest man after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend

A Silver Springs man faces multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon, after he allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend and threatened to kill her.
Brian David Hannahs, 48, is being held on $28,132 bail. Charges include assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, DUI second offense, and carrying a concealed weapon.

You've heard about those mysterious black helicopters, but does anyone know why we have two white Chinook helicopters circling around south Carson City?

Stabbing victim transported to hospital

A man with a stab wound to the back was taken to a Reno hospital via Careflight after being located by sheriff's deputies in Carson City.

According to initial reports from the scene, officers believe the stabbing took place in Gardnerville, and the victim was driven to Fuji Park where he was put into another vehicle, an older model red Mercury Mystique.

Carson City Airport open house

The crowds turned out for the Carson City Airport open house today. The event featured plenty of planes of all type on display, as well as some flyovers, a RC model plane demonstration and many other activities.

Flights of fancy and aviation demonstrations will be on tap Saturday at the Carson City Airport Open House from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event and parking is free and open to the public.
Festivities will include skydiving demonstrations, fly-bys, model aircraft demonstrations, static displays, hot-air balloon rides and lots of food and snack vendors.

Carson City woman faces drug charge after unprescribed pill found in bottle

A traffic stop near Airport Road in Carson City resulted in the arrest of two women, one of whom allegedly was in possession of a pharmaceutical drug without a prescription.
According to the arrest report, a vehicle was stopped on Sunday and an unidentified driver was arrested for DUI.
During the investigation, a deputy asked the arresting officer to have the vehicle towed. While conducting a vehicle inventory, a deputy found an orange pill bottle with the suspect's name on the top, according to the arrest report. The suspect was a passenger in the vehicle.

Nugget Project: Meet the developer (updated)

The developer chosen for the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Project will be on hand tonight to answer questions about the project.

Rick Oshinski, CEO of Sacramento-based P3 Development, will appear before the Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee tonight in the Community Center's Sierra Room.

Carson Now plans to show live video of the meeting, as well as hosting a discussion forum.

Many questions are sure to arise, concerning the details on the project and its scope, as well as the developer and how the company was chosen.

As I've been talking to people about this project, I've collected a number of questions, that I put together below.

Lots of road construction slated for next week

Various road construction projects will be causing delays and closures next week, with some working continuing even longer.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin work to add a third northbound lane on US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive. The following activity is expected for this project.

Former Senator, war hero Max Cleland in Carson City on Wednesday

Former U.S. senator, Vietnam war hero, advocate for disabled veterans and author Max Cleland will speak to Democrats in Carson City on Wednesday, officials announced Sunday.

The Carson City Democratic Central Committee invited the former Georgia senator to speak about ongoing policy issues for the November midterm election. He will address the public at 7 p.m. in the AFSCME building at the southwest corner of Robinson and Roop streets in Carson City.

Tourism commission to expand and brand in updated Nevada visitor strategy

The Nevada Commission on Tourism has updated its strategic plan for attracting visitors, combining cost-effective new initiatives and time-tested programs with proven track records, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki said Tuesday.

The agency (http://travelnevada.com) will target U.S. consumer markets that have large populations with convenient driving distance or easy air access to Nevada and international markets whose travelers have a strong likelihood of visiting Nevada, such as Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Germany, said Krolicki, Nevada's tourism commission chair.
