Retelling story of attempt on Hitler with Tom Cruise
Sometimes movies based on real-life stories work well; sometimes not. “Valkyrie,” starring Tom Cruise, is one that is flat and lifeless.
We all know how it comes out with the German colonel, wounded in Africa battles, attempts to assassinate Adolf Hitler at his Wolf’s Den with a briefcase bomb. Cruise does well with the thankless role and the story has some points — how the German industrialists planned to rebuild Germany after surrender. But it’s a story we all know too well and despite a lot of production values just doesn’t make the grade.
There are some interesting photos of German aircraft that might interest some avio bugs, but for the rest, pass. Rated PG-13, two hours, 2008. Netflix movie.
