Nevada Supreme Court certifies 2020 General Election results, Joe Biden wins Nevada
On Tuesday morning during a virtual meeting of the Nevada Supreme Court, the canvass of votes was signed and certified. Joe Biden was officially delegated the winner in Nevada's 2020 General Election for the Office of President.
The meeting was led by Nevada Secretary of State Barbara K. Cegavske in Las Vegas; four justices signed the canvass in Carson City, and three signed in Las Vegas in order to adhere to COVID-19 mandates.
The justices commended Cegavske and her office for their “extraordinary hard work during this difficult election,” and Justice Elissa F. Cadish asked how many voters took advantage of same day registration, which was approximately 70,000.
Voter turnout was extremely high this year with an almost 85 percent turnout in some places, with Douglas County leading, according to the Secretary of State's Office. The lowest turnout, according to Cegavske, was in Mineral County.
The type of votes cast were fairly evenly split between mail in voting and early voting; 49 percent of votes were cast with mail-in voting, 41 percent through early voting and 9 percent on election day. To view these statistics click here.
There were also 357,000 new voters this year. During the 2018 legislative session, a new voter registration law was passed by the public that would automatically enroll voters when they registered with the DMV.
The Governor’s Office will now prepare their Certificates of Election, according to the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office.
