Law enforcement conducts sex offender checks in Carson City, 2 out of 158 not in compliance

On Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division in collaboration with the Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshalls conducted a sex offender compliance check in Carson City.

During the check, 158 registered sex offenders were checked to ensure compliance with community registration as required by Nevada Revised Statute 179D.460. Two registered sex offenders were arrested for being out of compliance with their required registration during the operation.

Sex offender compliance checks are completed by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office every year. Members of the community can access information and receive notifications about registered sex offenders in Carson City through offenderwatch.com. According to NHP Northern Command, a fatal rollover occurred just before 10 p.m. Friday night, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality.

The fatal crash occurred in the Northbound lanes of 395 at Johnson Lane in Carson City, which was shut down for the investigation. Two vehicles were involved in the accident, which included a rollover and ejection.

One person was confirmed deceased at the scene. NHP believes impairment was a factor.

The deceased's name has not been released at this time.

The 20th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Snow or no snow, event activities begin with a guided tour starting at 9:30 am with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration if sufficient snow is present. Attendees should bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis.

Each year, CVS employees volunteer thousands of hours to nonprofit organizations in their communities. Joanne Dwyer, Director of the CVS Health Foundation, states that the CVS Health Foundation awards grants which supports these efforts and provides additional financial support to the causes supported by CVS employees. Grants, which range from $500 to $5,000, are awarded directly to the organization on the CVS employee’s behalf.

The next meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors will take place on Thursday, March 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 East William Street.

Items on the docket for the meeting include an increase in water rates, proposed marijuana dispensary changes in allowed operating hours, trick-or-treating a day before Halloween, and more.

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 4000 block of Furnace Creek Road on five felony warrants including three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

According to the arrest report, Michael Craig Henson Jr. was arrested on the original crime, which involved the use o a firearm and machete.

On Thursday afternoon Central Lyon Fire was dispatched to a house fire in Silver Springs that left multiple people displaced and one with minor injuries.

CARSON CITY — Comedy thru the Ages, the 2020 production of the Carson Follies, is seeking actors, dancers, singers and stage personnel for its upcoming show July 10-12. A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

UPDATE 7:45 a.m. Three dogs inside the residence were rescued by Carson City Fire Department firefighters who entered the home, said Battalion Chief Jason Danen. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday morning to a structure fire at a residence in the 2800 block of Bel Aire Way.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for any information on the whereabouts of a man who has been identified in connection to two recent burglaries.

Every year Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club recognizes local not-for-profit groups that excel in supporting the greater Carson City community. On Feb. 19 the club donated $500 to the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society. Glen Whorton, President of the NSPPS, accepted the donation and said that the donation will contribute to making the prison open to the public.

Sonoma Park in Carson City will be closed from March 9-27 for seasonal maintenance and repairs, while efforts to renovate the turf, address drainage issues and repair deficiencies related to the playground and amenities in the park are made.

A fight that broke out around noon Wednesday at Carson High School over a parking dispute ended with suspensions and citations, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Recently, the faculty and staff of the Christian college prep high school in Carson City became the first schoolwide staff in Douglas County to take part in the national bleed kit training being promoted by The National Stop the Bleed Campaign.

In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.
