Carson City School trustees to discuss contest winners, graduation rates, retention, and more Tuesday
The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Nov. 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.
Public Comment will be accepted in person, or through virtual participation via email; publiccomment@carson.k12.nv.us no later than 12:30 p.m. the day of the meeting. Email for public comment must include the submitting party’s full name.

Each year, the board sponsors the essay contest and winners are selected for each level in elementary, middle and high school. The first place winner at each level will be asked to read their essay, and winners are presented with a certificate along with a cash reward.
There were 318 entires overall. The winners are as follows:
Elementary:
1st – Eunice Nalapo, 5th grade, Seeliger Elementary School
2nd – Gavin Santiago, 5th grade, Seeliger Elementary School
3rd – Jacklyn Sullivan, 4th grade, Mark Twain Elementary School
Middle School:
1st – Caden Kabour, 7th grade, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School
2nd – Annie Munson, 7th grade, Bethlehem Lutheran School
3rd – Reese Wade, 6th grade, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School
High School:
1st – Brynn Russell, 12th grade, Carson High School
2nd – Madison Vaccaro, 9th grade, Carson High School
3rd – Lucas Valdez, 9th grade, Carson High School
— On second reading, trustees will vote on proposed changes to the CCSD Promotion and Retention policy, which included the removal of duplicated statements, as well as the addition of a statement regarding “the seriousness of retention, and a note that schools will work with families to assist in meeting the state requirements necessary for promotion to high school.”
— Trustees will receive an informational update on the preliminary 2023 graduation rates for the district.
However, no information on the preliminary rates were included within the agenda packet.
