Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Woman booked on felony child neglect

A Carson City woman was arrested Friday afternoon at 2:27 p.m. in the area of Pheasant and Fairview drives for felony child neglect, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Natalie Wright was taken into custody after law enforcement responded to a call about an unsupervised child.

The reporting party (RP) told law enforcement that they had seen the three year-old child at the street corner of a busy intersection throwing rocks into heavy traffic, according to the arrest report.

The RP said they had stopped and stayed with the child for about five minutes when they realized no adult was supervising.

While the Sheriff's deputy was speaking with the RP, a female began yelling at the child from about 120 feet away, the report said.

The child affirmed the female was his mother, whow as identified as Wright.

Wright told the deputy that the child had been playing with his scooter in the front of the house when he had run off as she had been talking with the mailman, the report said.

Wright reported that she had been checking the neighborhood in search of the child. But as she was being questioned, the child was observed to be uncontrolled, running to the nearby electrical box, throwing rocks again at vehicles in the street, and even at the officer, the report said.

Law enforcement observed Wright did nothing to stop or correct the behavior. When the officer mentioned this to Wright, she asked what she should do about it.

The deputy instructed Wright on giving limits as well as the dangers of throwing rocks, the report said, but the suspect still failed to stop the child's behavior.

As the child started down an embankment near the sidewalk, Wright also did not attempt to take hold of him and stop him from running away, the report said.

A records check on Wright showed she was on active parole and probation for previous child abuse/neglect, the report said. Wright told the officer that she was on parole and probation because her child had run off unsupervised a year earlier.

Parole and Probation communicated that it wanted Wright detained. When the deputy informed Wright that she was being arrested, she became upset with the child, yelling profanities at him.

"F**k you," she yelled. "I'm going to jail because of you, because you don't listen. F**k."

The child, still uncontrolled, ran off toward his residence and Wright gave chase after him once he had stopped running.

CPS was called to the scene and authorities remained with the child as Wright handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: No bail hold placed by Parole and Probation for violation of terms.
