Carson High School students tour UNR campus, take EDU 110 course simultaneously
Last Wednesday, 34 juniors and seniors from Carson High School in Carson City took a tour of the University of Nevada, Reno campus and received their college identification cards. In partnership with the UNR, CHS offers the dual credit EDU 110 course for students interested in pursuing a teaching career.
The university level introductory education course is offered during the school day to accommodate high school student schedules and is led by CHS Teachers Jenny Chandler, American Government and Art History, Sarah Lobsinger, TOSA/implementation specialist – math, and Cheryl Macy, English. The school effort is designed to grow the local teaching workforce. For the 2018-2019 school year, all 34 students enrolled in the course will receive college credit through UNR.
Earlier this week the students were busy creating bulletin boards for their school while learning how to use their creativity and a variety of tools. Throughout the year, students will visit different schools to observe classrooms, partner with teacher leaders within the district to learn instructional strategies, develop and deliver lesson plans, write a research paper on a current topic in education, create videos and learn what it takes to become an educator.
