Carson City-based national nonprofit Feeding Pets of the Homeless receives $10K CareVet donation

CARSON CITY — Feeding Pets of the Homeless recently received a $10,000 donation from CareVet to help provide pet food, supplies, emergency veterinary care and wellness clinics to companion animals of homeless individuals across the United States.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless was chosen by CareVet to receive the financial support because their unique approach and mission provides direct, immediate impact to both individuals and pets in need. The majority of CareVet’s nationwide network operating in 27 states participated in the fundraising initiative.

“We’re deeply grateful to CareVet for contributing such a generous donation as it will further allow us to support the increasing need to help the homeless and their pets,” said Genevieve Frederick, founder and president of Feeding Pets of the Homeless. “The COVID-19 pandemic has proven homeless people and their pets need our support now more than ever.”

“CareVet and Feeding Pets of the Homeless are aligned in our mission to care for pets and our teams were happy to participate in such an impactful initiative,” said Greg Siwak, CEO.

In 2020, Feeding Pets of the Homeless received over 8,100 calls from homeless individuals inquiring about where to find pet food, veterinary care and homeless shelters that will accept pets. While many shelters do not allow pets, there is an increasing number of organizations catering to individuals with pets. However, in circumstances where pet-friendly shelters are not accessible or at capacity, countless people live outside in the cold, during storms, and other adverse conditions because of their devotion to their pets.
