Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday and now a state holiday in Nevada
Today, Monday June 19 is Juneteenth, a federal holiday to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War. The day is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. All federal government offices are closed and there will not be mail service.
In Nevada, Juneteenth is now a state paid holiday, signed into law by Gov. Joe Lombardo.
Elsewhere, most local government offices and most banks are closed to observe the holiday.
