Accomplished swimmer, NCAA All American Hardt named Carson Tigersharks head coach
Dr. Julie Hardt has been named the new head coach of the Carson Tigersharks. A Carson City resident, Hardt graduated from Carson High School and was a Tigersharks team member for years.
An accomplished swimmer, Hardt participated in the US Olympic team trials in 2000 and 2004, is an 8-time All-American from the University of Georgia, a 2001 FINA World Champion and U.S. record holder is the 4 X 200m freestyle relay and a top 10 finalist as NCAA Woman of the Year 2004.
To this day, her 500 yard freestyle record set in the 1990’s as a Carson High swimmer still remains untouched.
Her progressive growth in coaching assignments at the University of Western Australia includes: head coach, Masters swimming coach, national squad coach, head age group coach and assistant age group coach. She has also worked as a squad coordinator in the learn to swim program. Hardt also coached the Edina Gators, Edina, Minnesota and was a Masters coach at the University of Georgia, Athens.
Some of her notable coaching achievements include, Western Australia Team Coach 2013 Friendship Games, Shanghai, China; Primary Coach 2013 IPC World Swimming Championship, Assistant Coach 2013 FINA World Championships, Primary Coach 2013 Paralympics Swimmer (India) and Open Water Coach of the year 2013, Australia.
Dr. Hardt also has impressive academic qualifications. With a bachelor’s from the University of Georgia, master’s in sports science, exercise and health and a Ph.D. in sports psychology, University of Western Australia she has the education, swimming as well as the coaching experience to be successful in her job.
"Her creative coaching methods, new ideas and a fresh approach to our team will certainly enhance the performance of our team and bring a sense of much need fun for our swimmers," according to an announcement made by the board.
