Historic Nevada State Prison tours sold out, more planned at later dates

UPDATE 3:25PM Thursday: Tours this weekend and June 5 for the historic Nevada State Prison in Carson City are now filled and sold out. More tours will be announced at a later date at the website here.

Be one of the first to go to prison. Not for anything you might have done, but for the history. The storied Nevada State Prison in Carson City will be open for public tours this weekend.

You'll be regaled with tales of prisoners past and hear the stories of the only prison ever to allow gambling inside the walls. So much history here. The NSP can be added to our other museums such as the railroad museum, the amazing state museum/mint and the Stewart Indian Museum.

Reservations a must:
On Saturday, May 29; Monday, May 31; and Saturday, June 5 we are offering four tour events on each day: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Tickets are $10.75 each, which includes the booking fee.

Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space is pleased to announce our 3rd Annual BOO-nanza Halloween event on Tuesday, October 29th.

Last year, approximately 1000 children participated and we expect a bigger crowd this year. In an effort to create a safe and family friendly Halloween experience, Carson City Park, Recreation & Open Space has partnered with the Carson City Library. The Community Center will be opened for trick or treating, haunted house, and outdoor carnival.

CARSON CITY — The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is thrilled to announce that their annual benefit concert, HopeFest9, raised over $225,000 in net proceeds. The event, which was held at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center on Friday, August 23, raised nearly $100,000 over 2018 event totals.

A 49-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of multiple felony counts burglary and other charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The Nevada Guard is set to host a memorial run, walk on Friday, Sept. 6, to commemorate the victims of the International House of Pancakes shooting that occurred in 2011. The run, walk will start at the Carson City IHOP, 3883 S. Carson St., at 7 a.m.

Doug Cramer, the owner of Carson City Mom and Pop’s Diner, has been fighting with the city for two years to keep his gazebo which provides shade for his outdoor patio seating in McFadden’s Plaza.

The Carson City Justice Court originally ruled earlier this year that because Cramer did not have the specific permit needed for the gazebo, and because the gazebo is in the public’s right-of-way, he would need to take it down.
