NHP Investigating Fatal Crash on S. Virginia Street at Tamarack Junction Casino
On Thursday, January 30, 2020, at approximately 2:51 PM, NHP Troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on S. Virginia Street at Tamarack Junction Casino in Reno.
The preliminary investigation shows a white 2014 Triumph Daytona motorcycle was traveling southbound on S. Virginia Street approaching Tamarack Junction Casino.
The driver of the motorcycle made several rapid lane changes and continued southbound at a high rate of speed estimated to be over 100 mph.
A silver 2018 Hyundai Kona was traveling eastbound from the Tamarack Junction Casino driveway. The Hyundai crossed through the southbound travel lanes and was partially in the far left lane while attempting to go north onto S. Virginia Street.
Due to the motorcycle’s lane changes around other vehicles and high rate of speed, the motorcycle was obscured from the view of the Hyundai driver.
The driver of the motorcycle applied the brakes causing the motorcycle to overturn, go airborne, and simultaneously eject the driver.
Both the driver and motorcycle continued to travel southbound in the air until both struck the left side of the Hyundai.
The Hyundai rotated counterclockwise and overturned due to the impact. The driver of the motorcycle (Anthony Barrera, a 24-year-old Reno man) was declared deceased at the scene.
