DETR: Jocelyn Cortez Appointed to the Nevada Equal Rights Commission
The Nevada Equal Rights Commission (NERC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Jocelyn Cortez to the Nevada Equal Rights Commission.
Ms. Cortez, a proud Nevadan and an immigration attorney at GWP Immigration Law, moved to Las Vegas with her parents as an infant. After earning her law degree from the University of Arizona, Ms. Cortez focused her practice on immigration law, when she began to represent immigrants in their own pursuit of the American Dream. Currently, Ms. Cortez represents clients from all over the world in obtaining U.S. citizenship, visas, and protection from deportation. She has assisted hundreds of individuals apply for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), given presentations explaining immigration law for the public and helped in citizenship and DACA application campaigns.
“I am humbled and honored to have been appointed by the Governor to the Commission and look forward to joining my fellow commissioners in providing a voice on behalf of Nevadans as we move forward in ensuring all people enjoy our state without discrimination,” said Ms. Cortez.
The Equal Rights Commission, led by administrator, Kara Jenkins, was established in 1961 to protect the welfare, success, health, and peace of all the people of the state, and to foster the rights of all persons without discrimination, distinction or restriction. The Commission is an agency comprised of staff and appointed board members representing the diversity of the state.

With her extensive experience representing employees in employment discrimination matters in state and federal court as well as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and NERC, she is a true asset to our diverse board of Commissioners,” said NERC Administrator Kara Jenkins.
