Carson City arrests: Man jailed for having stolen vehicle, discharging firearm

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of possession of stolen property, a stolen vehicle and unlawful discharge of a firearm, a sheriff's booking report states.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 3:14 a.m. to a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East in reference to a welfare check on a subject, identified as Ryan Raymond Tookey, in the bar area.

A deputy spoke with the subject, who identified himself. The man was breathing heavily and was clearly stressed, the report states.

Previous law enforcement interactions with the man at his residence have been calls in reference to gunshots, women crying for help in adjacent apartments as well as subjects with guns. All of these incidents have been unfounded, the arrest report states.

He told the officer that approximately 5 to 10 minutes prior to him arriving at the casino, two subjects attempted to break into his residence. He stated that he saw two subjects with guns attempting to kick down his patio door.

He said he grabbed his own firearm and stated he fired approximately 6 rounds through his back patio door. He stated that he had shot one subject before both subjects left the scene in a white pickup. He stated he locked the slide of his gun to the rear and left it on the living room floor.

The suspect said he drove away from the residence and could hear gunfire behind him. He assumed that he was being shot while he left the area. He said he drove to the casino and notified staff of the incident, the report states.

The officer asked how he got to the casino and he stated that he drove his friend's vehicle. He showed the officer the vehicle he drove, which was parked in the east parking lot of the casino.

The officer ran the VIN on the vehicle, which did not have any license plates displayed. Dispatch advised the vehicle was listed as stolen out of Sparks. Dispatch confirmed with Sparks PD that the vehicle was stolen.

Deputies arrested the man at 4 a.m. for suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle. He told officers he did not know the vehicle was stolen. He stated he had taken possession of the vehicle on Jan. 3 from a friend, "Brian." He did not know his friend's last name, the report states.

Deputies called for the on duty tow service for the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, the deputy found license plates that belonged on the vehicle placed between the front seat and door frame. The deputy also located a California plate in the pouch in the back of the driver's seat. After running the plate, deputies were notified by dispatch that the vehicle it belonged to was listed as stolen as well, the arrest report states.

Meanwhile, at a residence in the 4000 block of Lepire Drive, a sergeant and deputy noticed that a garage door was open. The suspect gave consent to have CCSO officers enter his residence and clear it of any subjects.

The man stated that nobody should be inside his residence besides his dog. After clearing the residence, officers advised they found what looked like a Smith and Wesson 1911 handgun laying on the floor of the living room with empty shell casings to a 45 mmm bullet near it. The sergeant also advised that the man's back door to his enclosed patio had approximately six bullet holes through it.

After the suspect was transported to jail, the arresting officer went to the Lepire Drive address and met with officers on scene and created a crime scene log. The officer called to request a telephone search warrant of the property.

It was granted for the following items: empty shell casings, .45mm ammunition, any firearms that match the caliber of the spent rounds, carpet, wall, door and windows material needed to collect evidence.

He was booked for suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Bail amount listed: $45,637.

In other arrests:
— A 46-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Jan. 1 for suspicion of violation of a temporary protection order. Bail: $1,132.

— A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 2 for suspicion of driving without a valid license, driving without proof of insurance, making an improper turn and operating a vehicle with expired registration. Bail: $1,128.
