Nevada Division of Forestry opens pre-proposal period for landscape scale restoration grants
The Nevada Division of Forestry is accepting preliminary proposals for Landscape Restoration Grants for habitat restoration projects now through March 1, 2023, at 5pm. These grants will support projects that improve and/or rehabilitate rural forests and rangelands, water resources, riparian areas, and wildlife habitat.
Funded by the US Forest Service, LSR grants are available to state and local agencies, tribes, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions. To be eligible, projects must meet the following requirements:
1. Projects promote collaborative, science-based restoration of priority landscapes and further the goals of Nevada’s State Forest, Range & Watershed Action Plan.
2. Projects must be in rural areas, defined as having a population of less than 50,000 inhabitants.
3. Projects must address large-scale issues, such as wildfire risk reduction, watershed protection, invasive species removal, and forest health.
4. Applicants must provide a 50% non-federal match to cover project costs.
Since 2018, Nevada has received over $1.1 million for projects that protect and improve habitats in sensitive ecosystems, including Spring Valley, the Walker River watershed, and the Truckee Meadows watershed.
