Junior Park Ranger Day happening this Saturday at Carson City's Riverview Park
Park Rangers from Carson City, Washoe County and Nevada State Parks will be set up at Riverview Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 welcoming families to the second annual Junior Park Ranger Day.
Junior Park Ranger Day is an annual event dedicated to help kids complete their Junior Ranger Adventure Guides and be sworn in all in one day.
Jr. Rangers will get hands on learning experiences with Park Rangers, receive FREE Adventure Guides from all agencies, compete in a Leave No Trace Scavenger Hunt, and have the option to join the Rangers on adventures! Once their requirements in the guide are completed, they can receive an official patch and be sworn in as a Junior Park Ranger!
All supplies needed to complete the Carson City Adventure Guides will be provided on site and were professionally printed with funds provided by the River Wranglers. The River Wranglers will also have a booth set up and will be assisting with the Watershed portion of the Carson City Adventure Guide.
Date: November 19, 2022
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm
Location: Riverview Park, 600 Marsh Rd, Carson City.
Food service: Scoups Ice Cream and Soup Bar
As part of the festivities, Carson City Park Rangers will also be leading three different adventures throughout the day:
1 . Coyote Walk starting at 10:00am
An educational walk all about the coyotes! While enjoying a walk along the Carson River at Riverview Park, you will get to learn everything about coyotes from identification to their habits and culture. If you have been afraid of coyotes while hiking in this area, this is the walk for you!
2. Whose Scat is That starting at 11:00am
Grab your magnifying glasses for an educational walk all about animal scat! You will get hands on experience with different kinds of animal scat and how to identify the culprits that left it. Remember to wear close-toed shoes and bring your investigative skills!
3. State Flower Power starting at 1:00pm
An adventure along the Carson River all about our State Flower! You will get to learn everything you wanted to know about the plant life around Riverview Park as well as Nevada's State Flower and what makes it special.
All hikes are free and do not require preregistration; they will last roughly 30 minutes and between 1-2 miles long over easy terrain. Dogs are welcome, but must remain on a six foot leash. If you plan on joining the Park Rangers on one or all of the adventures, plan to arrive 15 minutes before the start time.
The Leave No Trace Scavenger Hunt will start at 12:00pm! After getting a quick introduction to Leave No Trace Principles, Teams/individuals will be given a set of clues to guide them through Riverview Park. The first three teams/individuals to finish win a prize!
